Completely Separate Archive for Store Pets

As per usual discord discussion has made me make a suggestion for this site.

This suggestion is to create another archive for store pets. It’ll be the same as the archive now but say “Store pet archive” or something like that. Separate from the normal regular pets/monthlies/events that we have. I’m thinking a completely separated archive, not just a section in the archive.

Reasons:
A poll on the collection thread has only been up for a week and already has around 170 votes. 107 of those say they view store pets as part of a complete collection. This is as of Jan 5th.
Tess has said store pets should not be seen as part of a complete collection because there are no plans to ever rerelease them. Because of this that will make it impossible to obtain a ‘complete collection’ in that way.
It will make a distinction between the regular pets and the store pets.

The con I know and have heard about this before is that it could cause demand problems even MORE with the store pets to have their own special section. However, store pets are special.

Support. I have seen a post by Tess stating that store pets are semi-customs so to me they do not belong amongst regular pets. They are not available to all people because you have to have c$ to purchase.

I support this, store pets being in with the normal archive leads to confusion about how rare they actually are. As Tess has said that they should be seen more as semi-customs rather than regular pets it doesn't make sense to have them with the normal archive.

I think this would also help people recognize the distinction between regular pets and store pets, too. Store pets aren’t a part of the collection, and belong in their own archive.

I think if they decide to make an individual archive for Store Pets they should include a footnote stating that store pets are independent from the game and aren’t part of the collection. Despite the fact that it’s becoming a more well known fact, many members remain unaware.

I support the suggestion as well, I do not see store pets as a part of a complete collection either, and having an archive separate from the main archive would be super beneficial.

Support! This suggestion was kinda embedded in the other thread and I felt weird about making a new thread just for that. Glad to see this suggestion again!

Recently I was reminiscing about another adoptables site I played called Unicreatures. A little info about it: That site was a little more explicitly collect-em-all than CS in that there was an achievements page with creatures you could check off as obtained, plus the site's free creatures were never permanently retired. There were also creatures that could only be obtained via a currency that you got from donating, and this currency could be gifted to you by kind people (or via offsite trades), so this currency was similar to C$. Some of these donation creatures were always available; others were limited and would eventually retire.

It was a design choice from the beginning of the site carried through all the way to when UC closed that none of these donation creatures were listed on the achievements page. So anyone could eventually get a completely finished achievements page without ever needing to have a donation pet.

Even though UC was more explicitly collect-em-all than CS, I think this is worth bringing up.

^^^^ that’s super interesting nick, thanks for sharing that! Especially since even while that site is more geared towards collecting them all, I still think it’s very similar. While CS doesn’t say this is a collect them all game (especially since its run since 2008 and that’s a LOT to collect) I know most users feel that it is or make that a goal.
