Yeah. I see the point, and I agree. I'm not sure I would agree CS is dying - it still sees a relatively stable base of active users, much more so than any truly "dead" forum. I'm not even sure that selling the site would be the best option, as there is the fairly sizeable risk of any new owners wanting to use CS to turn a profit, and not much else (think those annoying free-to-play but pay-to-win mobile games).

However, I agree that something needs to be done. It has been brought up time and time again, both in the suggestions and the CS discussion forum, as well as in other places, that it feels like the staff are not interested in continuing the development of CS, that player suggestions are not being heard, and that there is a significant lack of communication between the staff and the players.

Anecdote: I recently rediscovered my Flightrising account, which I made in 2015, played on for a month or so, and promptly abandoned. Remembering Flightrising as "like CS, but with dragons and also pokemon battles?" I was shocked to discover how active the forums were. I was even more shocked when the front page, and a little pop-up, notified me that downtime for regular site maintenance was expected at this time and that hour. The Site Status bar on the side of the front page was regularly updated with little notices for events, maintenance, or updates.

It was a whole new world for me. In comparison, a CS user is lucky to hear from staff two or three times a month, and almost always about the same topics: on the 1st, when new litters are released; at the start, middle-ish, and end of an event when a little notice is posted; and if there are staff applications or rule changes. Comparatively, there is almost no communication. Furthermore, the communication that does exist is exclusively staff-to-user. There is no option for user-to-staff communication (which is ostensibly what this forum is for, but I might make a longer post tomorrow about why that isn't actually happening). Everything is top-down. I was used to this, if annoyed by it, but logging back into FR showed that good, proactive, inclusive communication is entirely possible. It just doesn't seem to be happening here.

Selling is in my opinion too drastic a proposal, but perhaps a drastic proposal needs to be made in order to get the message across.

Alternatively! If the staff know that their lives have moved on, and that they have neither the time nor the interest to continue expanding and developing CS, and selling or passing on the site is not an option, then they need to tell users. Yes, it would majorly suck to hear that there are no plans for further development, but to be honest I'd prefer that to this endless limbo we're stuck in now, with no promises and no communication.

PS: staff (and the poor mods who have to moderate this thread, rip) ily and you're all wonderful people <3 i'm not mad, just dissapointed, in my opinion this is an issue with the way communication is set up on cs rather than y'all, a symptom of the system rather than an issue with the people if you will

I agree with this. CS is definitely not dead. But it seems to slowly be heading there, maybe it's one year, maybe it's 5 years but it's noticeable. I think the people who love and care about this website would just like to see some love and care put into it again. And yeah shout out to y'all out there doing your best here I do love and appreciate you for all your time and effort on this site.

i feel as though some people may possibly be misreading the main post

selling is definitely a last resort and not something we want. this is a call for change which so many users are agreeing with. we don’t want them to sell; as many have noted, it is tess’ pride and joy.

we just want change. or at least signs of change happening, updates. anything

Gonna throw my 2 cents here.

I’m a very new user, I’ve been on the site just barely over a month, and it’s very obvious the site is in a state of decline. My first warning sign was a lack of weekly updates, and the fact that the free adoptions forum had /at least/ one new giveaway due to leaving CS a day.

I’ve seen sites that are dying desperately try to keep it going, that update and push their currency to try and keep server/staff payments going. I’m sure many will know exactly what site I’m talking about here, but there’s a big difference between there and here.

Mainly, it’s the fact that there are no updates. There’s very little transparency, and while it’s comforting not to see the site begging for money...it’s also a bit worrying.

I don’t want to see CS die, and I certainly don’t want to see it sold, except as a last resort. If more volunteers are needed, or even a few more permanent staff members, I’m sure several users here would rise to the occasion. I never got to experience CS in its more active time, and I would love to see it gain that back in the future.

I think there’s a lot of potential for CS, and certainly with some more hands on deck, we could see a grand revival of the site.

PS: thank you staff and volunteers for everything you do for the site. It is appreciated, we just don’t want to see your hard work go to waste!

Exactly! I'm sure there are a good chunk of people on this website willing to step up and give their time and money to improvements.

I've been here since 09 and I used to be on all the time. Endless. I recently got back on to be an artist in a species I fell for. But before then.. Id get on, get the pets, and leave till next month. I want to leave cause I sunk 100s of USD into this site. But nothing. No updates other than pets and a forced BLM post....

Please.. between Oki and the Pet side of things there is so much that has been suggested. Do something Grow the site rather than smothering it. If you cant give the community the support it needs then why keep it?

I support this 100%, but instead of selling CS, what if Tess and Nick created a new team? Perhaps a team that checks up on the suggestions thread often? They can reply to some suggestions that they do or do not seem fit and then report back to Tess and Nick. And what about making a team that justs posts updates? The team members for this can correspond with Tess or Nick about updates that players want or that they want and then make announcements a few days or a week beforehand. Just so that we are all prepared and now that they care. And the announcements team can also be in charge of sending out one announcement every month asking how everyone is doing. So that we know that CS Staff are still checking up and looking out for us, even if Tess and Nick don't have time.
