I always thought this was a cool way to incorporate a chance to get an OMG so rare pet into a monthly adoption. maybe something like this could be re-introduced?

I was just thinking of this again last week! Is that not still a thing? I remember it being a really cute incentive to the people who didn't like horses as much to still adopt them. Would love something like this to come back if its gone!

I'd love for this to be a thing for all species. A UR dog only available through dec 18th and random adoptions would be crazy awesome, same goes for every other species.

I do agree maybe on changing the title. I think this is more of a discussion on improving the site community and engagement, but then again that's why we're discussing this all - to find strategies for members to not want to quit. To figure these strategies out, we have to understand the reasoning behind a lot of people wanting to quit and why they would be upset enough to want to quit.

My reasoning exactly.

Hire additional coders/Increased admin activity
The only way I can see this happening is if CS starts charging a membership fee for access. CS is not, from my understanding, a profitable website. The only way of bringing in cash is through C$ sales, which as mentioned above, cross site trading makes for easier attainability of C$ and does not bring any profit to CS. It's a free to play site, with minimal ads that most of us use ad blockers against anyways.

Quickly adding my thoughts here about the inability to pay additional coders: hire interns. As someone heavily involved in the computer science realm, the amount of people (particularly college students) looking for internship even a little related to coding is ridiculous. Off the top of my head, I could name a couple dozen people who would jump at the chance to intern for a site like this for free.

I am not at all knowledgeable in the computer science realm, but I imagine the concern with this is finding someone you can trust to have that sort of site access and not abuse it or abandon responsibilities. Interning would be great, but for my field at least, they're looking for internships that are more household name businesses. A little old pet collecting website that's called "chicken smoothie"? Unless you've been a member, you've never heard of it. Wouldn't students rather intern for somewhere that has more of a reputation, or even a bigger presence? Not denying that students would be grateful for an opportunity, I'm just wondering if the lack of general population popularity of CS would only bring students who are a bit more lax and not as dedicated to the candidate pool. But again, I know nothing of that field, I don't know how big of a concern my thought here is

if i'm being completely honest, this site does NOT bring in any revenue to tess and nick. ALSO all the suggestions y'all have in that spreadsheet are like, WILD to program. also gotta remember that tess and nick are ADULTS and have lives outside of cs. it's their site, if they want to keep it, they can. they don't have to sell it... a few suggestions i see are good, i think they should rework the pound so that the valuable pets are scattered throughout the opening and is not a competition on who has the best internet speed.

i feel like this thread should be locked tbh - it's causing a lot of mayhem and DEFINITELY straying off topic. and a misleading title LOL.
people are leaving cs because they have GROWN UP and have lives. i joined almost 12 years ago. i'm an adult now. i'm rarely active besides pet trading, but this site is chill.

Honestly, I disagree about locking this topic. I don't think it's causing mayhem at all. I do believe the forum thread is moving extremely quickly; it can be overwhelming and hard to keep up with. However, I think a lot of good ideas are being thrown out there, and discussed thoroughly and well. I think the one thing we can all agree on is that we love CS and want to see it improve for the sake of not losing the site or interest in it, so the fact that so many people are coming together for the sake of the site, compiling lists of problems and suggestions to fix them, brainstorming and thinking together, proves we all care.

If we simply give up and lock this topic and say, "Well, no one's ever gonna work to change it anyway," then that is exactly what will happen, because nobody tried.

But if we continue to talk and be open-minded and have this discussion, perhaps we can bring a list of true issues and solutions forward that the people in charge of this wonderful, nostalgic place will want to truly discuss and implement. We must try for the things we care about, and I can't speak for anyone else here, but I definitely care. And it seems to me by the massive amount of interaction and response on this thread, that others do, too.

Basically I have seen from a lot of people on a lot of threads that when their trades are canceled, they get rude messages and people being insanely mean.

I think it’s fine to reply for an accepted or suggested trade, but if you cancel maybe instead of the message box we should just have a drop down list with a few basic options that say things like-

🔘no thank you
🔘this is not fair to me, sorry
🔘I’m not interested in that, but thank you anyway

Just basic stuff that’s not opening the doors for people to be mean and unnecessarily rude and gross to other players.

I would LOVE THIS. I really hate canceling trades because I have no idea what to say most of the time and I don’t want to be mean.

You could always state that you will not give a message if it makes you uncomfy! Most, if not all users [at least the good ones lol <3] will totally understand, because I feel this !!

@synthpuppy
very very true! I did't even think of that, it's a great way to get people logging on at least once a month!

not everyone is leaving CS because they have grown up. me and my friends all quickly became soured on the site around when the hackings happened, and had already been losing interest in the site since a little before then as well due to how it's being run. we are adults, and were already thoroughly enjoying the game as adults. also, i have not seen any mayhem in this thread /gen, to me it just looks like a discussion. people are discussing ways the site can be improved, and reasons why they personally have been losing interest.

^^ you cannot blame people leaving solely on the fact that they're growing up lol. there are def kids leaving the site BECAUSE of things we mentioned.

Agreed, 12 years later I'm an adult now with two kids and I'm still here...but there are issues that can be addressed that would keep some people around, and that's what the thread is addressing, with some potential ideas to fix those issues. I'm actually quite enjoying this thread.

I disagree with those saying that it is off-topic from the title, too. Why are people leaving CS? Well, these are the issues we see that could make people want to leave, and here are ways we think they could be fixed! I've found this thread and its members to be very constructive and respectful, for the most part.
