If people are seriously upset and crying over the message (which I didn't realize was possible; my apologies for that D: ) then maybe the message should be changed a bit at the very least? Maybe something like "no one had even considered adopting me for such a long time until you decided to" or something?

On my phone sorry for awkwardness

Exactly; my friend cried over the message because, like I posted before, it reminded her of the letter that was sent home with her cat's ashes who was cremated after dying from having cancer. I'm not necessarily saying the message/Pound PM should be deleted, just changed a little so it wouldn't upset so many people O-o

May I jump in with what I have to say on this matter? Or should I simply walk away after reading bits about it and looking at the >>CS Tag On Tumble<<?

Will bold the needed words in this post.

First of all, I support this as it's option.

Next {@} Nadine~ 'And if you want an option, then you should state that more clearly in the first post, as the way it's worded makes it look like you want them removed.' I'm not trying to sound rude, but before you posted that, did you look at the subject of this thread, because if you did, you would see it clearly says 'Suggestion: An option to disable messages "from your pet"' An option, it clearly says option. And it even says in the first post and I quote 'Can we please have an option somewhere to disable those "A message from your pet" messages that one gets when they go to trade away a pound pet?' The word is there clear as day option, no where on the post does it say remove.

Next {@} DrinaLestrange~ 'And the pound message isnt that bad.' It may not be very bad, but I quote from >>The CS Forum Rules<< 'Spamming - don't post pointless posts/threads etc. Don't post threads to advertise other threads (e.g. posting in general chat to advertise a thread you created in trades/adoptions section). Any posts breaking this rule will just be deleted.' Surely this goes for pointless messages as well.

I'm not saying those messages are spam, but, in some ways, more than one, they are. I don't have a pound pet group, like other people do, and I just throw my pound pets in where ever I feel they should be placed, be it in trades or simply in one of my keeping groups.

Also, from Google~ 'Send the same message indiscriminately to (large numbers of recipients) on the Internet.' That is what spam is, so, having this message sent out because of trading away a pound pet isn't spam when it's the same one over and over again?

Zoethian wrote:Image
Awwwww, I'll never forget that day when you adopted me from the pound :( . They were going to put me to sleep because nobody wanted me, but then you came and stroked me softly through the bars of my cage and took me home with you. And now you're sending me away and I won't be able to be with you any more :(. I hope my new owner will be as kind as you were to me. View the trade that is sending me away! I don't wanna go!

Someone tell me, if I'm wrong but isn't guilt-tripping very much looked down upon on CS? So you can't send a trade to a user, guilt-tripping them into sending a pet because, oh 'My pet died :(' but the pound can be guilt-tripping users to not send away a pet because they adopted it?

The whole point of this game is to trade and work at getting pets you want. Let me just remind everyone, these are pixels.

I have a friend wanting to co-own with me and you know why I won't let her? She has hard times trusting people and her being on CS makes me scared that she'll be even more un-trusting of people and that's not a good thing at her age. So having a guilt-tripping 'from your pet' message randomly turn up because she traded away a pound pet would be setting her back way too many steps from how far she's coming to trusting people again.

One more thing in that message that speaks to me is this part~ 'They were going to put me to sleep' there are children as young as six on this website, trading pets and getting pets. I wouldn't want my children knowing about that kind of thing from a website, it's something they should be told about by their mother and / or father, not from a guilt-tripping message on a pet game where they could come away crying because they can't believe they just gave away a pet they got from the pound.

I understand why the message was made, but, if you know what spam is, you'll know that message can fall in with all the spamming messages.

Also, if we can't have an easy to see option, why not make the message less guilt-tripping? Here's one I quickly made that I hope sounds a bit nicer and less upsetting.

I remember when you adopted me from the pound! All the happy times we had together, playing and being with each other! I was going to go away, far away, but you saved me and helped me find a home. I hope I can make this person as happy as you made me! Thanks for caring about me and looking after me so well. You can view the trade that's sending me to my new home if you want to give me a quick hug before I go!

If I saw something along those lines, maybe it wouldn't feel as guilt-tripping as the one we get now feels?

I'm very sorry if any of this sounded rude or you feel hurt by what I'm saying, but before you tell me 'I'm a rude and annoying human being' re-read what I've said.

Also, before anyone tells me 'You can stop the messages, just do this trick.' I won't, don't tell me I can.

I'm sure everything I've said in this post will be taken the wrong way or I'm being rude, I'm not trying to be.

One hub I want to say quickly befor I go to sleep

Something that wasn't intended to be pointless can still be seen as pointless

Interpret that however you want by the way

On phone sorry for awkwardness
Spread the word to end the word, because discrimination based on perceived or actual IQ/"intelligence" is no better than discrimination based on race, gender, etc.

Context, consistency, and clear antecedents are golden.

If you think about it, the message is quite sad O-o Sending messages about pixel pets being "put down" is actually messed up; PMs about your pixel pets being put to sleep if you hadn't "adopted" them isn't something you send to everyone who wants to trade a pixel pet they got for free from another user who donated it -.- It's wrong to throw that around to discourage someone. I know about "automatically getting rid of the messages", but I think changing the message should be considered; all the CS staff are making everything "positive" and "child-friendly" and blah blah blah, but they're sending messages to you about pets you from the pound almost being put to sleep? Wow, that really makes me smile and not think anything of it O-o I would expect someone to consider changing the message, because it's pretty sad they would throw that on here .-.

If it's against the rules to trade pound pets, then make it a rule, or lock the pets so they can't be traded. If it's not, then don't try and guilt trip me out of it.

You can already disable the pound messages.
ucp.php?i=pm&mode=options
If subject -> is like -> "Message from your pet" -> delete message.

Short and to the point; I completely agree. :) If they really feel so strongly about it, I think somebody should make some sort of actual rule against it, and if not, then the messages should be optional or at least edited.

I think that would be an awesome change. It still touches the person on an emotional level, so they would feel discouraged and re-think the trade, but it does it in a child-friendly way and is not nearly as disturbing as talking about a pet being killed on a family website. :)

True, but I still believe that there should be a change to the messages themselves, particularly the line "They were going to put me to sleep because nobody wanted me," for reasons already stated. It really is not appropriate considering how many people on here, myself included, have experienced the unspeakable agony of losing a pet in real life and that line especially is very upsetting. It should be changed to something a little more neutral that still gets the message across that trading pound pets is frowned upon.

I, too, would like to see a change to the message. It doesn't bother me anymore so much as it annoys me, but when I first got it the first few times it made me feel kind of guilty, and I wasn't even really a 'child' at the time. (Above COPPA age, anyways).

I just gifted a friend a pound pet and got that message. It's silly really, having that sort of message that discourages things. Say the pets really did have 'feelings', that pet would be 'happier' with my friend because my friend actually wants it, whereas I have no need for it anymore. Thinking about it, almost anytime you give/trade a pound pet to someone is because they want it more than you do. Anyways, this is kind of beside the point.

Point is, pounds and putting pets to sleep are touchy, sometimes controversial subjects and not something you would talk to a child about. If CS is supposed to be child friendly, than why do we have messages like this?
