Marking; I'm very interested in this thread but I'm not as educated in these matters as others.
But wow! I didn't know this thread existed nor did I know so many people shared the same feelings as me about this site. I love this site, and I've always found staff to be kind, but it feels like the communication between them and the community is lacking. I'm glad that this is being addressed. Plus, the fact that it feels like its been at a standstill/slightly dying for many years.
This is my favorite site, and I want to see it thrive. I hope for a better future for CS.

agreed with oekaki. i really want more shortcuts? there's an eraser shortcut and transform, but why isn't there a brush/pencil shortcut?? i hate how i have to move all the way over to the right away from my drawing when i have to transition from eraser to brush it get's annoying.

Personally I don't think the site is dying; if anything this site is THE longest running, still largely active adoptable site I've ever been on. The only other site I know that has lasted 10+ years and still has a frequent stream of new users/a regular schedule of new content is dragcave, and a lot of their systems are even more outdated than CS.
That being said, CS definitely hasn't done the best job with keeping things updated. Especially with new suggestions that are incredibly relevant. Honestly I always thought the reason they didn't add several popular suggestions was because either the site code couldn't support it, or because they didn't have someone on their team capable of handling the update. I have no idea what the real reason is. Depending on how much work would be involved with a system revamp, maybe they've just chosen to continue as they are since the site is, technically, still stable. There are a lot of active users here; plenty are only here for offsite trades or art deals, sure, but as long as CS has plenty of activity and people can technically function on the site, if not ideally, the admins might not see it as worth the effort. (even though it really would be)
The #1 thing I believe they should implement is a tutorial. At the moment you have to post on the introductions board, and you'll usually get a response from someone linking you to several threads necessary to understand how to get pets, and how rarities work, etc. I joined the site back in 2009 and I don't believe anyone ever gave me those links, or if they did, I never saw them. I still didn't know my rarities, or that "the rares list" existed by 2012. I definitely sent a lot of trades out that were very unfair, due to the massive, disproportionate scales of value contained within "very rare" and "omgsorare" rarity tags. I wasn't active on the forums whatsoever, and that information wasn't available or even technically supported anywhere else on site. The fact that users get scammed/ninja traded with so often does not surprise me at all, considering how many many many many pets there are, and that their rarity tags do not give a real sense of their value at all. Pet rarities are definitely the second biggest thing I think sorely needs updating.
CS has definitely taken a long-run but laid-back approach. I, personally, do not want them to sell the site, as there is no telling what a new owner might do with it. 9/10 instances I've seen a site change hands, there were a lot of changes that followed, and definitely not all of them good or even wanted by the user base. I think they'd do better hiring additional members of the team that would have the privileges/knowledge needed to assist in site changes.
Although ultimately, I'm not sure that even if a huge portion of the site began insisting on changes that they would ever actually implement them. This site definitely feels like more of a side-project for the admins, not their main focus. At least at this point.

This is my main problem with selling CS. Does anyone remember Squiby? It was an adoptables site, that, even with its fair share of problems, had a fairly active userbase with talented artists. It was sold off to the owner's cousin(?) I believe, and there was a massive problem in which the owners were selling users' art on DA. After this there was a mass exodus of users (including the most popular and talented artists) and the site eventually bit the dust.

I don't think selling the site is even really on the playing field. I believe it was suggested for the sole purpose of getting people's attention and it worked. I just hope this thread will bring new life to cs.

I think that the staff should be more direct when they talk to you. It also seems like the entire staff if against you when a situation occurs because they will reply, delete, and have another staff member say something instead. The communication needs work and I think the staff members should be more organized. Like Nick, the coder, shouldn’t be moderating, etc. I think that it’s all just messy and it ruins the site for players like me who want to communicate and talk about things without being shut up.

Nick has multiple roles in the site, he helps code and when he isn't coding he browses forums and moderates, he chose to help out with moderating as his own personal choice.
When an argument occurs the staff delete all the comments so none of the users can continue harassing/talking to each other anymore, this way they can discontinue fights easily.
The CS staff will delete your posts if they break the rules, when signing up you agree to a websites terms of service,
it's true the communication could be better, but they do try their hardest on this site and that's very admirable! especially as it's a non-paid job.
I understand the frustration of being warned, But all in all it's a learning experience for us, we learn from accidently breaking rules and it makes us better people! :D
I'm sorry to hear you were warned (I saw your posts had been locked) all of us accidently break rules, the staff are working hard on re-writing them to make them easier to understand.
I hope you understand my explanation, have a great day! :)
But the thing is, nobody was fighting. We were having a perfectly calm conversation about it and they decide to delete it which is really uncalled for in my opinion. Also, the mods have replied and then deleted their replies which is really unprofessional. My posts have been targeted at the staff, yes. But that is kinda what the suggestion forum is for. I understand both sides of the communication but it’s unfair either way. And also, the staff shouldn’t have more than one role. Nick shouldn’t have to deal with mod stuff and he should focus on coding more considering he is the only one.

Sorry to hear that, I have been warned for calm conversations, Sometimes the mods do make posts, then delete them, It's very unlikely though I did see it once.
Regarding the conversation, That is an issue you will have to take up with staff in a help ticket, or emailing a moderator, we can not make posts about moderating issues, as they might be taken down, so you might want to ask a moderator via PM (or via a help ticket) for advice. Lacuna (a moderator) always takes PMs and you would probably find her to be the best person to talk to, or you could PM another moderator.
This is honestly exactly what needs to be changed in my opinion. We should be able to talk about this stuff because it helps everyone understand what’s going on and gets people on the same page. And she wasn’t any help sadly. I think that the staff should probably work as a team more and that would improve the website so much more if they were.

some notes:
• cs’ networth is 318k~ USD.
• cs should have a rank up system within the staff more often. [ like simon going from mod to admin assistant to admin ]
• tess and nick are in their 30’s
• the block feature and chickenpaint need to be drastically updated.
• a stroll through the suggestions forum is needed.
• i know the staff has said having another coder is risky + they aren’t looking forward to it, but sometimes you have to take risks, and i’m pretty positive you don’t have to hire one on the spot, just rank up the staff members as mentioned before, take a look into some skills, form a bond / trust , etc.
• cs usually dies in between events when there isn’t an event going on, how about a monthly event ?
I agree with every thing but I definitely want a monthly event or something. The last time I actrully played was Easter, between events I am on once a month just to adopt the monthly pets then I hardly am ever on I forget about it till the next month.
