I agree that all pets (including store pets) need to be in Dec 18th box. Now, people who have old pets and store pets have monopoly over everybody. If old and store pets are re-release, that may shift some of that. Old pets are almost the same as store pets.

I know sites don't generally like to release limited-time pets/items again, and especially not for free, as a sort of loyalty to the people who bought them in the first place. But it's been?? how long?? 15 years for some of these pets? I could pretty much guarantee you that most people who bought them back then won't care if they get re-released. Odds are they traded any extras they had a long time ago, (or they're not even playing the site anymore) and there's no reason the value of certain pets should be protected at the detriment to the rest of the entire site. Newbies frequently don't stick around very long because of how insane and unnecessarily complicated the rarities are.

I've bought CS pets a few times back in the day and I'm definitely not against re-releasing them. Especially in small quantities, cause let's be real, a handful more orange cerbs and ravens on the site isn't going to drop their value by hardly anything.

Yeah I played a long time ago and traded most of my old pets away before I really knew they were very valuable. The date and trade rarity differences confused me personally, and I often just try to go by official rarity unless the pet is older than 2013. The calculator add-on helps a bit to not be so confused, though.
But anyway I think a lot of people would appreciate having a better chance at those old pets, both old players and new. For me a lot of them are very nostalgic and I miss them.
Just on here to collect pretty pets now, let me know if I have any you want.

in the past I’ve tended to be exhausted by players bringing up the re-release of store pets as a talking point, because CS staff has said so many times that it’s not going to happen that it’s left me in a place of feeling like all energy expended on debating this is lost/wasted energy that could go towards more productive discussion on other topics. but now, having seen neopets reverse their decision on UC pets after more than 15 years, the idea seems like less of a fairytale.

(idk if it lends any context that ppl would be interested in, but I personally had UC neopets on my account prior to de-conversion last year and I was for/supportive of the de-conversion. I even had one of the rarest UCs on the entire site - the neopets equivalent of a skelebun, if you will - and I was still in support of the deconversion because of how much damage I felt the UC “market” had done to site culture, as well as what Kiamsc mentioned above; I missed them. I really missed the old art and it genuinely felt good to “get them back” site-wide.)

all that being said, I’m personally really, really wary of this idea being implemented here on CS even if staff were to change their mind on it (which tbh I still find unlikely.) as things stand right now, in contrast to how things were on neopets, it’s pretty much site culture to disregard most older store pets, because they are so unattainable. people who have trading fodder to the tune of multiple older store pets mostly trade amongst themselves in very small circles and tbh I think most players are content to avoid that bubble. of course, the types of players who are then genuinely disadvantaged are either super serious collectors or people who have some sort of ultimate dreamie amongst older store pets (most often I see the raven dog holding this rank).

but as much as things suck for those users and I feel for them, I think that’s still a relatively small number of players. and I worry rereleasing old store pets would be like adding gasoline to a small campfire. in that it would actually benefit store-pet-monopoly-traders and create new horrible avenues for disadvantaging inexperienced players. it’s very different to the situation on neopets given that UCs should never really have existed to begin with, and the recent de-conversion removed that unattainability entirely. old CS store pets by contrast were pretty much intended to work out this way, and I fear suddenly making them slightlyyy more attainable would set off a landslide of demand pushes and ninja trading and everything would catch fire in a bad way. I have a lot of personal experience keeping an eye on the CS economy due to some trading guides and threads I managed in 2019-2020, and I’ve yet to see a framing of re-releasing old store pets that is convincing on the basis of not actually making the problem worse instead of better.

i definitely understand your hesitancy and worry about store pet re-release making things worse. the inner circles that trade those high value pets and who have 1000s if not $10,000+ C$ dollars are exclusive. they have exclusive pricing and do benefit from players who are less knowledgable, but i feel like that only represents another short sight on CS that it can be really hard to gather the community in one place outside of dec 18th since we all play so differently and individually. but i feel like it really assumes the worst of the CS community to take the most evil route. a lot of the older players or players who have large collections/hoards/monopoly on pets are usually reasonable. i've even asked a few of them for advice before over PM for trading my dec 18th pets. they have all been nice to me. i genuinely believe that if store pets were re released it would invigorate the community to trade more and provide more hope for some of the members to achieve their dream collection/pets, and it wouldnt be painful if there was a discussion before hand to maybe inform more players like they usually do with the banner about dec 18th, cheating, and tricking players etc. i feel like most of us are good people who just wanna trade with their homies😭😭

wait sorry ok scene im dramatic ☠️

we could discuss this as much as possible using our anecdotal experiences with these trade groups but the only way to know what would happen in my opinion is to re-release them in whatever way the community decides on for 1-2 years and then have another discussion with the players. since we cant really reach the whole CS community perhaps a vote on the main page or some other way of receiving feedback on a wider scale could be used to gauge the community. and if people are really unhappy with the re release it goes in the history archive and it doesnt happen again, idk, they could even make the pets temporary until feedback from the community comes back after a while. idk.

anyways i guess i just dont have another solution that would work in a 1-2 year time frame, since if they ever did re release store pets it would be very rarely im guessing. but i do think other ways ive seen in this thread would work too! i really liked the idea to donate to a community pound for players to grab a little bag of C$, more store items/rotating store items, i def think there are other ways but im not sure if they would reduce "inflation" at a rate that would have players feeling more excited about trading within 1-2 years.

i also still dont have hope for it happening but i have been rlly enjoying the discoure in this thread

I felt this way too! xD <3 that is, until I managed a trading guide for a couple years. the associated research needed to maintain the thread (that led me to recognizing certain patterns in the high-value trading scene) and the types of pms I received from some high-value traders who perceived my thread as holding some kind of “influence” over the “market” is the sort of stuff that discouraged a lot of the optimism I’d previously held on this topic, unfortunately.
