WHY PEOPLE ARE QUITTING CS- A Discussion

As others have been saying, the low maintenance of CS is a big plus! Sometimes I can't check everyday, so knowing that my pets grow on their own and monthlies are available all month is really great! It removes pressure from players. The most common way I get burnt out from a game is constantly having to check it. Games are great but I simply don't have time to dedicate it. For example, Neopets takes way more effort to stay a viable account. Here you only need to log on once a month. If the site wants to drive up daily visits, they could implement dailies, but that could drive away a lot of the core fan base who've stuck around. Quickly, less active accounts would no longer be viable in trading while before they still would be.

I've also seen others suggesting deleting old accounts, but I guess my concern is what would the time limit be? 10 years? 5 years? 2 years? As someone who left for a while and came back, I can see others doing the same. Granted I was only gone for ~2 1/2 years but still that's a long time. Obviously old accounts that haven't been used for 10 years seems like fair game, but I'm more concerned how that would be implemented and its impact. Would there be a dead line for those accounts? A specific date? That's potential hundreds of accounts deleted with thousands of pets newly available. Those pets would probably have to trickle out slowly, because if not, it would potentially crash the trading economy if tons of 2010 pets came into the pound at once. I know this is worst case scenario, but it is something to consider. If those pets were to be taken, it wouldn't solve a whole bunch immediately and could cause problems if not dealt with wisely.

one small thing is do WAY MORE huge pound openings like they did that one birthday :p a few times a month maybe the pound opens once an hour (?) and the amount of pets for adoption is raised. very simple solution to battle the pet issues just a teeeeny bit but it would go a long way

THIS!! YES!! I joined in 2014 and even then the community was pretty open, accepting, and lenient. Not it feels like a haggling market. I came back on after two years of hiatus during college and was slapped in 2019 by how the nature of the site (or users) had changed. I feel better knowing others think the same.

not to mention old players coming back after years are kinda treated poorly for not knowing the New rares and in-demand pets! i got a lot of flack for not offering the New Higher price value for some rares, which the year before would have been much less. it sucks that there's no way to get back into the swing and full scope of rares unless you are here, active, and knowing.

this ^^ I am genuinely afraid of trading any pet of rare or higher rarity from any year nowadays, because I have gotten treated *very* poorly. it wasn't always like this. I started slowly phasing out of this site around halloween 2020, I got sent no less than 4 harassing messages after I politely declined trades for the banner pet at the time that I had and was not willing to trade away. this pretty much did not happen to me ever before this instance, but became much more common afterwards. I actually don't read declined trade messages anymore because I have received so many rude ones I just would rather not even look.

Figured I'd put my two cents in, as an artist, I see clearly it is WAY easier to get high list/value pets.

If you make HQ art it is way easier to obtain high list pets through commissions, this is the way I was able to get so many valuable pets suddenly after coming back from YEARS of being inactive. Yes I now stay to collect all the monthly pets but most importantly I use this site to browse the looking for art forums to find either dreamies or USD commissions that provide for me outside of the site.

Trading is incredibly grindy and, although I obtained my first OMGSR from hard grinding trades, pretty much unfeasible for the average player. Not to mention all the younger players who will sometimes have to put up with older people deceiving them about pet values, getting overly angry over pixel trades, etc.

Anyways, the market is heavily benefiting artists with years experience in art whether it be through contests or commissions.

Maybe I should try to learn the sites art program, or participate in off-site program art honestly, I'd love to draw other people's characters and take on commissions, but the paint program here is overwhelming for me especially because it doesn't really feel mobile friendly.

FYI I cannot draw on oekaki to save my life, all my art is done on ibispaint. all that matters is that you are an artist whose work is regarded as "HQ" by at least one person with good value pets

I swear this has to do with the topic but I just organized all my pets I have around 9000 and the process of organizing was so tedious I think a lot of this website is fairly outdated including the achieve. I also think perhaps people, mainly the youth, just aren't as into pet collection sites as they used to be.

I definitely think the interest is still there, may not be as popular as it once was tho

I have been playing for years. A bit unactive for some of them but monthly since 6 years ago or so.

CS has changed very little since I started playing. But now getting older pets is a nightmare.
I am still terrified of trades, it is super hard for me to remember each case and I feel like it is very easy to rip me off. And C$ is way more important than it used to be. Probably because the people who play have grown up and have money.
I am very out of the drama since I do not visit forums. I haven't really been in the community per se. I just like collecting the pets and have a friend here and there. But I have always thought of CS of a nostalgic and calm place.

Some suggestion I have is that I see a lot of pets in the Pound account sitting there. I feel like Pounds could have bigger amount of pets. That would allow more people to get a chance, rather than always being the same users that are the quickest. These rares would get spread and be more accessible for other people.

Also something to point out it is very sad also to enter the side on a normal day without an event. There is very few people connected, making it very hard to trade with people. I understand that it is impossible to have always events to keep people engaged. But maybe something like a pet or item reward for completing the month collection? Like getting all the pets from August month, you get a special pet. That would make people swap more often? Not sure, just a crazy idea.

CS has a special place in my heart since I have been here for almost 14 years. I would love to see this place be engaged and supported again.

Well say someone has been offline for at least 2 and a half years thats a reason to put the account into inactive they can even send a message stating your account has been inactive for this number of days month or year and give them a choice whether to start it up or let them scrub it clean of pets and items into the Pound and Lost and Found... I feel that should be a option for older players who don't want to stop playing but are simply taking a break before returning.

I think a change to the pound would definitely make things a lot better in terms of accessibility to new players. As of right now, the pound has 849,438 pets. That's a lot of pets just sitting around that could go to new users that don't have any! One of the biggest problems (in my opinion) is the barrier between new players and old players, so I think making it easier to get pets from the pound could help, even if it turns out to just be a little bit of a change,

CS should hold another pound event again! (More is described here) It seems like the pound has enough pets to be adopted out.

slightly off topic n maybe this has been said before but something that might drive new players away is the sites look in general. it can be extremely overwhelming, especially for ppl who aren’t used to these types of forum websites bc there’s just text everywhere n there’s not rlly any sort of tutorial. i remember when i first started, i only rlly understood how to adopt pets, sort them and trade, it took me several years until i actually started using the forums and more. whenever i tried to get my friends interested it just never worked, i remember specifically one of my friends mentioned how much text was everywhere.

When I first started reading your message, I thought you were going to indicate that the bright greens of CSs site was what drove people away lol but have you ever tried Flight Rising? I recently got in within the last year and I feel their website is SIGNIFICANTLY more wordy and advanced than CS. I mean, they don't even have a mobile friendly site. They have a huge data base, a massive forums page and so much more. BUT - FR has a massive turnout. Why? I think it's because there's so much more to do on FR. I love, love, love chicken smoothie, but there's really only things to do during events (unless you're into art or roleplaying). But that's just my two cents

i think increased pound openings would definitely be helpful with putting more pets into circulation!! the problem for me is that my wifi is rather slow, so i don't get lucky most of the time unless if it decides to load faster some days than others. it would be nicer if they increased the adoption amounts more, even if just for once a month? it would come with the risk of dropping the pet amounts in the pound, but waiting ~6 hours have a bunch of snatched pets 0.1 seconds into the opening is. eugh.

having a monthly event like that would help boost the player numbers! even if for a bit, it'd still give users a date to put on their calendars. if that makes sense.
