Just a thought...
"It's just like in real life."
"But these are just pixels! It's ridiculous!"
People pay for what things are worth in real life, too. If something is too pricey, people won't buy it. If something is free and people want it, then they will grab it. And if they want something and they can't find it for free, then they'll pay what they think is a reasonable price for the item and will not pay if it's at a ridiculous price.
People on CS won't trade with each other if they set prices too high (eg: if they want a moonswirl for a shima longtail). If they find something that's free and they want it (giveaways, prize pets in riddles, etc), then they'll try to grab it. And if they want something but can't find it for free, then they'll pay what they think if a reasonable price for the pet but they won't overpay ridiculously (they miiiiiiight pay a sorbet for a black advent, but they probably wouldn't pay ten sunjewels for one).
Going by the "but it's just pixels!" logic (I'm disregarding store pets since those are in a world of their own and are usually not the main focus of CS--I see more people wanting black advents and shima longtails than the cerberuses and raven dog), then I should be fine trading my nonballoon for last month's uncommon because "it's just pixels! who cares!"
In fact, going by that logic, everyone should be fine doing these unfair trades because "they're just pixels!!!!!!!!!!" And yet for some strange reason, no one is fine with that.
I'm aware of the fact that trading and the pound messages are very different things. But they both involve pixels, yeah? (again disregarding store pets) I just don't see why the "they're just pixels" argument is valid. People get worked up over "omg someone offered last month's free pixels for my free pixels from July 2008!!!!!!" If the "they're just pixels" argument was actually valid, then not as many people would explode with the force of a nuclear bomb when someone offers last month's free pixels for their free pixels from July 2008. Sure, some people would still explode, but not as many would... (I mean, just take a look at the trade rant thread. I saw someone get very, very angry (scary, really) when someone offered a regular 2011 cat for a regular 2012 cat.)
Pixels clearly matter if people get very worked up over them o__o some people apparently quit CS over the equimagine lines, I saw a few people quit after not being able to get their dreamies (which were not store pets but were the bernese mountain dog, black advent, etc), people can get banned for creating multiple accounts to get more free pixels (I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that; I'm just pointing it out since it involves pixels)...
I think I went off on a tangent somewhere and probably repeated myself a few times aaagh @__@ and
I'm not sure if I got the correct message across, but I sure hope I did -crosses fingers-
Please note that I'm not trying to render the entire "I support this suggestion" side to nothing. I understand the other reasons given for supporting this suggestion.
I'm just very, very irritated by this particular argument. On a different note, if the Pound pet messages end up staying, then I support having some sort of sad message when you go to delete a pet since that's much worse than rehoming a pet
