[urgent] this site really is actually dying

Well, as a user who is here for the pets and the pets only (and items) I personally can't tell CS is dying. New pets are released as usual every month and for events without missing a beat. As a matter of fact, CS has had a slight increase in activity in the last few years with the introduction of the mid-month updates, more frequent smaller awareness and such events being released now, limited store items and birthstone items has been introduced as well as several other improvements here and there. I honestly can't tell it's dying.

I have to agree. As a long term member I've seen various mini communities pop up and disappear over the years (such as the HUGE surge of closed species that started on CS years back. We still have the odd few here but many moved on to other sites such as Kiamara's, Plumarians etc...) and although I do miss some of the older members and how tight-knit things were in the very beginning, the thing is people grow up, move on and in turn newer members take their place.
That being said I don't see how the site is "dying" so much as there just is SO many more members now that, that super small tight community it once was in the very start just isn't a thing anymore. I don't see a problem with this though because if anything it means the site is more popular than ever. As Minimanta said above, the site is updated frequently. We still get pets every month without fail, the events take place the same and honestly if anything the amount of pets/items we get now greatly overshadows what we used to.

I think the other thing is too; is that as we age we start to feel differently about things we once used to enjoy. We seek that same feeling we had back when we may have been younger (CS has a MASSIVE age variety, so this is more towards us older players). But nostalgia can only help one so far...
For example I wish I could feel the same way about Neopets like I did when I was young pre-teen but as much as I still love my pets over there and still pop on from time to time...things have changed. The site isn't what it was back then, I'm MUCH older now (and that site has its own issues...but this isn't the place to discuss that.) and so much has changed I struggle to get that same feeling I had back then; now it's more just nostalgia than anything else. I think the same applies to CS now and even more so in years to come.

One thing I do agree with what some others have said on here is the trading. I'm not sure if it is the influx of new players and just the odd and confusing "economy" of the site but trading for older or rarer pets has gotten much harder and with said pets becoming more and more rare the more new members there are I can't see that changing much. Even with the DEC 18th re-releases each year. Shame...but I guess thats kinda how collecting sites work? There will always be things that are worth more and sought after just due to their rarity and trading for rare/popular stuff like this on collection sites is ALWAYS a huge pain for new members who are starting out. Ce' la vie, I suppose.

My only issue with rereleasing store pets is due to the fact that it cost actual money to buy those pets. I wouldn't want to see store pets that I've bought with my own money rereleased for free; even if it was only a rare chance.

I don't see anyone suggesting they be free. Just a single click raffle, and if you win, you get a link to a selection of store pets for purchase for the same amount that they were originally sold at.

Now, I do kind of like this idea. It could be released on Dec. 18th as well, everyone who enters the raffle and only...let's say 50 people actually win. Those 50 or so people can pay C$ for a store pet that was from the past and to help limit, only one per winner.

I don't think the store pets would immediately drop down to VR or rare; especially if it's only 50 CS players out of the 1000+ we get during Dec. 18th. Plus, each year we get more and more pets; thus, making the economy go up with certain pets. There's the OMGSR zebras that have a very small chance of releasing each month and they're still fairly wanted/valuable. Like I also said, it'd be a one pet limit; so nobody would be allowed to buy 1000 skelebuns lol

Edit: Although, I think rereleasing store pets are out of the question as staff (I believe Tess did too) has already addressed it won't happen

Regardless of limiting it I still think it's rather bad idea. If you put it into reality - there are collectors all around world who want something solely because of how rare it is. I get what it would result in, making the rich have less and the poor have more but this robin hood strategy would more likely hurt the whole site, rather than help
Any kind of limited edition goods is sold on ebay and similar sites today for way more than the original price for the same reason...it is what it is

i think we need more events or just. special things happening on the site. only time its really fun is during any sort of event, and i mean any. like halloween or christmas, plus dec 18th. i only joined last year and i can still notice how dead the site is, and its sad to see. i think another reason might be the uma's not being as active, same for closed species. i haven't seen too many active as of lately, which has probably dropped the users coming online too because lots of users love umas/closed species. for me, the pet collecting has honestly become boring and tiring as it seems lots of users want things for less than they are worth, especially items. i have lots of valuable items and can never trade them cause id have to make them way less than they are worth. only exciting thing on this site nowadays is dressing pets up or seeing an actually active forum game.

i agree so much with the above post,, i have a good collection but honestly there's not much to do on this site which is sad. i only really come on here for the events and i barely even did the summer event this year since it's the same as last years jsut with a different theme.

id love more events but honestly i dont see them doing more its a lot of work and i think all the staff is there out of participation and doing new things isnt something they do lol, the site has been the same for like 500 years

anyone remember the 2020 carnival event? one of the first events i participated in when i rejoined the site, and that was honestly pretty fun in my opinion (or maybe it's cause i'm a big plushie collector and that one plushie stall was where all my tokens would go but still), the 2021 cave event was kinda.. boring in my opinion? it didnt excite me as much as the carnival event, but it was pretty interesting. 2022 was my second favorite of the three, because the theme interested me. maybe we could vote on the themes for the event? that would be pretty interesting to me, but ig some people still do like the surprise of it all too..

also irrelevant but if it already exists then just tell me but i'd love to see how we could find a certain post in a certain forum, such as this post, i had to keep scrolling backwards to find my post, and in the forum games, i usually like seeing how people replied to mine
