Adding on to support this, text wall incoming! Feel free to correct me if any of this is wrong;
When Tess started doing special releases, it was obvious she was doing it for a fun addition/possibly SEMI customs/bonus features and not towards collecting. These were released in a SMALL amounts purposely as FUN BONUS PETS; unlike to the OMGSR/VR pets in regular adopts (like Hollypaws said) and not needed towards an actual complete collection.
Here is some possible evidence that might support this:
(Again, POSSIBLE! This is up to anyone's interpretation.)
- UR cat was supposedly a custom
- Bananas were being given away by Tess as a semi custom
- Admin Sorren Fey has confirmed the banana was a gift for partaking a chat; pretty much confirming the original URs wasn't really supposed to count towards a complete collection and was semi customs.
- The B-wolf was a bonus pet due to tess not liking the design
- Moonflight (A staff member at the time this was posted) said Tess was most likely NOT to re-release the first URs again.
I wasn't able to search tess's posts on her profile (she has them disabled) to see what she had to say officially about UR's. Trying to search Tess's posts in forum-wide search either crashes or doesn't load.
So yes, by going by these posts by numerous staff members and users that's been around to see it; UR's was SUPPOSED to be a fun/bonus pet and NOT intended to be part of a complete collection.
90% of my UR collection was obtained by C$ or off-site flight rising gems. (This was done before the irl inflation, and I had a stable job. There was nothing I could do irl due to covid lockdowns, so at the time chickensmoothie was a hyper fixation.) I lost track how much I spent, and it's a problem. Like Hollypaws said, spending a HUGE CHUNK of money to complete a game isn't kid friendly. Yes, there IS apps and games that have micro transactions, but they're OPTIONAL and have ways to complete the game without spending.
It's near impossible to complete a pet collection on here without spending funds. Unlike FR and animal jam, CS main focus is COLLECTING. That's the only main focus of this game.
Now it's 2023; C$ Prices have gone up on pets, values are going up (A toxic is no longer .25 nons, it jumped to .5 nons), so more money will be spent. What about the kids who want to complete a collection? There's no way they can pay unless they get their parents permission. Even then, parents are more worried about food and bills so it's a 90% chance of a solid no.
Pay-to-win is not a kid friendly mechanic. A Kid-friendly site/gameplay is WHAT CS is trying to aim for; since the site began. There's no way to obtain URs WITHOUT pitching in funds now days, and it goes against the term: "Free pet collection" CS is a casual game, and all we want is just a checkmark in the free-pet archive without spending $.Ok, maybe it's possible to obtain them for free. If any of these apply:
- SUPER lucky on the 18th, but the catch is you still have 1-2 OTHER new URS that's been also released you have to try and get.
- Began playing in 2008-2011; but even THEN you need to save UP so much fodder by playing constantly/being a hardcore collector.
- Get gifted these pets or win a giveaway, but have a 300+ : 1 odds of winning.
- Have SO much trade fodder, but even then it's difficult to find others who are willing to do trade-downs or trade pets in bulk.
- Win art contests, BUT you have to develop your art skill (which takes years of practice) and be able to draw digitally. Artists with lower skill levels/only do traditional art have almost a 0% chance of winning.
The only realistic way to obtain them is money. People with newer accounts come to play with the aim of collecting, but getting too frustrated and quitting within a few months.
I get people who have a complete collection to make it hard to obtain, but it SHOULDN'T be near impossible? Collecting pets without UR's is just as difficult as collecting URs. A complete free pet collection should be without UR's due to CS's current economy state.
CS has changed since it started, so I feel that it's time to update their game/complete collection rules due to less and less people coming on adopting. I really want CS to stay up long as it can, but CS needs to readjust things if they wish to keep their userbase.
That's just my view, I fully support this suggestion! Sorry if any of this comes off rude, it's not my intention! I'm just sharing what I've observed throughout my time here. <3
just bringing this little section back!! fully support, perhaps a toggle is best for those who do include special releases as part of their collection!
Just to piggyback off of these quotes I really think it would be cool for special release to be its own collection! The 2008 -2009 pets are hard enough for players to obtain and creates a challenge in itself. The name "special release" indicates that it is apart from the original collection + for players to have every pet on site (aside from store pets) the total cost is very high. New players really struggle with gathering wealth because the site is so old that the old pets keep getting more expensive. I don't see a reason to throw special releases on top and tell them they need those too to have a complete collection.
