I kind of understand what you're saying, but by this logic, shouldn't store pets also be included in a complete collection...? As it stands, they're currently not (for the love of god pls do not change that ever). No matter if URs count towards a complete collection or not, there will ALWAYS be difficult pets to work towards. If I remember correctly, aren't there only like 15 or so people who even have a complete collection??

Store pets aren't included because Tess said so; it isn't based on their rarity. A lot of these pets were only rare when they were released. (Theoretically Tess could just come on this thread and say URs don't count anymore, and then they wouldn't count.) I can't speak for her, but I think the original intention of this was due to the fact that real money HAD to be involved when it came to store pets. A lot of the playerbase were kids with no access to money, or their parents weren't willing to spend money on "pixels on a screen" (direct quote from my mom ). While URs and super rare pets are incredibly hard to obtain, it can technically be done without spending money on C$. I can't say whether things could be reassessed as dynamics of pet collection have changed, but I don't think rarity is a good basis for not including UR pets because they have always been incredibly difficult to get, even when we only had a handful of them.

This is just my opinion as a long-time player - I don't have access to any additional information as a staff member that changes my outlook. (I feel obligated to state this because I know that having a colored name can give my words more weight. Sorry if I sound like a broken record!)

I would like it to be about to have a switch on or off because I completed 3 years but URs back it so I don't get a check and it gets up setting and I don't have the pets to get URs so would like if we did the suggestion on being about to turn it off or on. If they count or not but even then UR are worth so much and know my snake collection doesn't count as completed and never will do to UR is hard to come by. And I don't have the nons or Mas to trade for it. So be nice if they didn't count or there was a option for it

I think that having a toggle of collection completion between regular pets, store pets, and special release pets would provide the best solution for all parties (those who think the current collection requirements are good, those who collect store pets for a complete collection despite it not being required, and those who feel that collecting Special Release pets is an impossible or unfun goal for them to meet) based on the replies I have read in this thread.

I think the way these different groups of pets are obtained justifies their ability to be hypothetically separated into different types of "complete" collections, and having these requirements be toggle-able will allow users who have already put in the work to collect Special Release pets to keep their win.

Neeko nordestina wrote:I wish there were different levels of completion
Completed all monthly pets? You get a checkmark
Completed all monthly pets + special releases? You get a star
Completed all monthly pets + special releases + store pets? You get a rainbow star

This way everyone could get the "I achieved something" feeling but there would still be harders things to achieve

I also really like this suggestion from Neeko nordestina. I think this would be a good way to separate these different completion toggles based on their levels of difficultly while still providing the finality of having a complete collection (under certain conditions) to all users : )

I personally don't feel strongly about having complete collections of certain species or years, but I was sad to see a lot of snake collectors upset about a Special Release snake today because of how it un-completes their collections, instead of happy because it's another cute snake.

I do like this Idea since I had all snake and know I never get the UR one so it won't happen and wish they wouldn't count in the archives I completed 6 years but all that stopping it are the UR that I don't have so much to tried them for I don't have that much money to even get one of the UR I traded a hole lot for the first UR I have but even then I will not get all of them for archives I would like to see checks to show my goal but it just won't happen bc of the UR

I really like this idea too. It would also be cool if you could add the badges as little stamps in your stamp collection to show off that you have a whole collection of something!

    This! ^

    Adding on to support this, text wall incoming! Feel free to correct me if any of this is wrong;

When Tess started doing special releases, it was obvious she was doing it for a fun addition/possibly SEMI customs/bonus features and not towards collecting. These were released in a SMALL amounts purposely as FUN BONUS PETS; unlike to the OMGSR/VR pets in regular adopts (like Hollypaws said) and not needed towards an actual complete collection.

Here is some possible evidence that might support this:
(Again, POSSIBLE! This is up to anyone's interpretation.)

90% of my UR collection was obtained by C$ or off-site flight rising gems. (This was done before the irl inflation, and I had a stable job. There was nothing I could do irl due to covid lockdowns, so at the time chickensmoothie was a hyper fixation.) I lost track how much I spent, and it's a problem. Like Hollypaws said, spending a HUGE CHUNK of money to complete a game isn't kid friendly. Yes, there IS apps and games that have micro transactions, but they're OPTIONAL and have ways to complete the game without spending.

It's near impossible to complete a pet collection on here without spending funds. Unlike FR and animal jam, CS main focus is COLLECTING. That's the only main focus of this game.

Now it's 2023; C$ Prices have gone up on pets, values are going up (A toxic is no longer .25 nons, it jumped to .5 nons), so more money will be spent. What about the kids who want to complete a collection? There's no way they can pay unless they get their parents permission. Even then, parents are more worried about food and bills so it's a 90% chance of a solid no.

Pay-to-win is not a kid friendly mechanic. A Kid-friendly site/gameplay is WHAT CS is trying to aim for; since the site began. There's no way to obtain URs WITHOUT pitching in funds now days, and it goes against the term: "Free pet collection" CS is a casual game, and all we want is just a checkmark in the free-pet archive without spending $.

Ok, maybe it's possible to obtain them for free. If any of these apply:

      - SUPER lucky on the 18th, but the catch is you still have 1-2 OTHER new URS that's been also released you have to try and get.

      - Began playing in 2008-2011; but even THEN you need to save UP so much fodder by playing constantly/being a hardcore collector.

      - Get gifted these pets or win a giveaway, but have a 300+ : 1 odds of winning.

      - Have SO much trade fodder, but even then it's difficult to find others who are willing to do trade-downs or trade pets in bulk.

      - Win art contests, BUT you have to develop your art skill (which takes years of practice) and be able to draw digitally. Artists with lower skill levels/only do traditional art have almost a 0% chance of winning.

The only realistic way to obtain them is money. People with newer accounts come to play with the aim of collecting, but getting too frustrated and quitting within a few months.

I get people who have a complete collection to make it hard to obtain, but it SHOULDN'T be near impossible? Collecting pets without UR's is just as difficult as collecting URs. A complete free pet collection should be without UR's due to CS's current economy state.

CS has changed since it started, so I feel that it's time to update their game/complete collection rules due to less and less people coming on adopting. I really want CS to stay up long as it can, but CS needs to readjust things if they wish to keep their userbase.

That's just my view, I fully support this suggestion! Sorry if any of this comes off rude, it's not my intention! I'm just sharing what I've observed throughout my time here. <3

just bringing this little section back!! fully support, perhaps a toggle is best for those who do include special releases as part of their collection!

Bumping this after hearing one of the URs this year went for about 300$ in c$. At this point we are crossing over into NFT price territory which I find absolutely fascinating. I'm not spending NFT amount of money on something that was supposed to be a kid friendly pet collecting game (with other side stuff to do on the site as optional quest). I think a toggle system or system where you get a sticker depending on if you got the URs/StorePets/ECT would be a lot better than just having a "You don't have 300$ to spend?! Well then you didn't complete this years collection!" blue box~ xd

When you try explaining CS to someone who is into crypto they actually tell you that you're basically participating in a watered down version of NFTs. You have a specific ID number, a value set by users based on demand, economy with a specific type of currency (or currencies) to buy the pets, ect. I ended up talking to one and they told me "It sounds like this was NFTs before NFTS".

As someone who was previously against the original suggestion, I definitely support this breakdown of completions.
