totally agree with this!!! they are doing their best and have been handling about 100+ emails complaining about this situation. they know it’s happening, they know people are upset, and they are doing it all as fast as possible. just an ounce of patience for the people who created this website for free. it is just a pixel pet website! <3
I understand the sentiment and it is important to be polite and understanding towards staff and Nick. There's no bad intentions here and I dig that! However, I feel like this statement, especially with this just being a "pixel pet website" really invalidates people's fears, frustrations, and overall negative feelings about how Chicken Smoothie is being run.
You wouldn't tell the literal hundreds of millions of people who could be affected by a potential security breach on YouTube (hypothetical, not a real event as of writing this) that "it's just a funny cat video website." A lot, I mean a LOT of people have the same passwords and emails across multiple sites, including important sites like emails, school/workplace portals, etc. It becomes a real security risk that has a cascading effect. From one virtual pet website to another, annoying, inconveniencing, harassing, damaging, etc. the hacked users' accounts.
And then of course, the time and effort they've spent on Chicken Smoothie. The statement reads to me as shaming someone for caring about a "pixel pet website." I doubt this would be said if it was a website dedicated to a "mature" or "serious" topic that was accepted by society.
The fact that Chicken Smoothie allowed itself to run for a decade and a half with no real security system besides the barest of bones, a single programmer, a creator so inactive she hasn't even adopted any 2023 pets yet, and makes no attempt at censoring the fact this whole event happened in their forums but still won't make a real announcement about it. Tess and Nick have made this website for free, and their creation definitely brings a lot of joy, but a decade and a half later, I cannot commend staff/administration for doing less than the bare minimum for their website. Yes, I will thank them for what they have made and the community they have fostered! But it doesn't mean I have to thank them for
everything. Like any other human, they can still scrwe up.
I apologize if this comes off as harsh. Again, I'd like to reiterate that I have nothing against you (p.s. off-topic but I love SuperMega), just the statements. I have no ill will towards staff and Tess and Nick, just disapproval of their actions. Have a good evening/morning/noon!
