Good morning everyone! Not surprised that this thread has continued to grow overnight (for me) lol! I just got done reading through and I want to be a sort of “voice of reason” if I may.
There is a lot of talk about how mods conduct themselves and how in several instances they have been said to be “rude”. I am also neurodivergent, and I 100% understand the difficulty of reading tones and what not!
While I agree that there has been several instances where the mods have maybe been a little in over their head, I think we also need to consider the other side of this; children.
There are (believe it or not) still several handfuls of children on this website! As a lot of us know, children are very susceptible to outside influence.
I’m not really good at explaining stuff so let me .. set the stage:
Child A: *breaks a rule*
Mod: “Hello! I just wanted to let you know that you broke ——- rule and this is an official warning. /nm /lh”
Child A: “hmmm well they seem really friendly and lighthearted about the whole situation soooo it’s no big deal!”
Child A: *breaks the same rule again, later down the line*
Mod: “Hello! So sorry, but as you have broken several rules with warnings, we have no choice but to ban your account. /nm”
Now obviously this is a HUGELY FICTIONAL SITUATION.. idk how mods actually go about “banning” users, but I hope that some can see how detrimental this could be to children who may not understand these things as easily as us folk.
Unfortunately, I don’t really have any useful ideas on how this could be fixed (it’s the early morning, and brain has no juice in it yet) but I figured I’d put this little idea out there!
One more side note, thank you to everybody who’s been commenting on this thread! I’m sure a lot of you can relate (you old veterans, you!) when I say that this movement towards changing the website for the better has my ol’ nostolgic heart beating <3
Thank you to all the mods who have stopped by and put their input and perspective! A lot is being said and put into question about you guys, and I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Thank you for working with us on this. I think most of us understand that you may not have all the answers, and we appreciate your input :)
