Good morning everyone! Not surprised that this thread has continued to grow overnight (for me) lol! I just got done reading through and I want to be a sort of “voice of reason” if I may.
There is a lot of talk about how mods conduct themselves and how in several instances they have been said to be “rude”. I am also neurodivergent, and I 100% understand the difficulty of reading tones and what not!
While I agree that there has been several instances where the mods have maybe been a little in over their head, I think we also need to consider the other side of this; children.
There are (believe it or not) still several handfuls of children on this website! As a lot of us know, children are very susceptible to outside influence.
I’m not really good at explaining stuff so let me .. set the stage:
Child A: *breaks a rule*
Mod: “Hello! I just wanted to let you know that you broke ——- rule and this is an official warning. /nm /lh”
Child A: “hmmm well they seem really friendly and lighthearted about the whole situation soooo it’s no big deal!”
Child A: *breaks the same rule again, later down the line*
Mod: “Hello! So sorry, but as you have broken several rules with warnings, we have no choice but to ban your account. /nm”

Now obviously this is a HUGELY FICTIONAL SITUATION.. idk how mods actually go about “banning” users, but I hope that some can see how detrimental this could be to children who may not understand these things as easily as us folk.
Unfortunately, I don’t really have any useful ideas on how this could be fixed (it’s the early morning, and brain has no juice in it yet) but I figured I’d put this little idea out there!

One more side note, thank you to everybody who’s been commenting on this thread! I’m sure a lot of you can relate (you old veterans, you!) when I say that this movement towards changing the website for the better has my ol’ nostolgic heart beating <3
Thank you to all the mods who have stopped by and put their input and perspective! A lot is being said and put into question about you guys, and I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Thank you for working with us on this. I think most of us understand that you may not have all the answers, and we appreciate your input :)

I think a read only discord would be beneficial. It’s not completely necessary to have, but pound notifications and real time logs on whats changing about the site would be a godsend

Having the Discord paired with the other suggestion about having an Update Log on the front page would be really helpful!

Personally, my main interaction with cs is the pet adopts. The monthlies, the events, etc. I like dressing up my pets and getting them organized in groups. My biggest frustrations with cs are:

1. items that do not fit all species. I get it, there are SO MANY different linearts and species now. I really like cats and malks, especially malk drafts. Unfortunately, so many items are made only to fit dogs, or when fitting equines they do not include malk drafts. It makes it difficult to find things that work. New linearts are interesting and get people excited, but it also makes it hard for items to keep up

2. organizing pets in groups: species. Instead of ticking each pet individually or by the entire page, I would really appreciate a select function that grabbed pets by the same species, such as "select all: dogs". It would make mass trading so much easier

3. organizing pets in groups: time stamps. I really like it when my groups are organized in ways that all the littermates are next to each other. Monthly adopts aren't a problem, since I organize by species, but event pets and re-releases prove problematic. ID swaps are possible, but are extremely time consuming and the process can be frustrating. While theoretically re-releases are the same value as true dates, my impression is that people vastly prefer the true dates. For me, the true date preference is so that my litters sit together. If I could select a function that allowed me to free order the pets, re-releases would be equal to me. If I could get a 2016 re-release sitting cat to sit with its 2009 littermates, that would make me so happy.

I don't spend much time in forums, I tried oekaki but struggled to draw with a mouse, so I don't really have opinions about the two.

Side note, anyone around for the brief moment when cs offered stickers? I thought they were cool, but I didn't have the means then to purchase c$

I agree and there has to be a balance between professionalism and like what you said above, but there is ways to be professional without seeming lighthearted or rude.

I have the stickers and the pins! Showing my age here LOL. A good amount of discussion happened earlier about revisiting physical merch, and I think it's an interesting and nuanced conversation that deserves its own thread :)

holy smokes I forgot about the pins! crazy

I just looked at the spreadsheet- mini events/ monthly events would be cool but I imagine would be too much of a task to pull off. I feel like the increase of lil bonus litters we have gotten recently have been an attempt to do this: world oceans day, more new items for the store, the limited-release birthstone sets, pancake day, etc. These people only have so much time in a day

but an item re-release??? I LOVE THAT. The lost and found is relatively new considering the age of the site. With its birth, I wonder what happened to the items lost from banned accounts before the lost and found existed. Did they keep track of how many of which items? Items are harder to trade for since they don't have rarities so they're very subjective and people are nervous to offer or trade them away. I think an item re-release is my favorite thing on that list

Another thing I want to put out there is that though a discord wouldn’t be necessary to have, this is a website and not an app so it cannot deliver push notifications to your phone. I would love to have direct notifications about things happening on the site it would also provide transparency between the mods and such and could have a channel where suggestions are brought up by the mods and reasoning is showed for why they are not being implemented
