Hey everyone!
I am writing to suggest what I hope would be a significant improvement to the user bookmarking feature on the site.
Currently, the bookmarks page appears to list bookmarked threads solely based on the date of the last post within that thread. While this provides some chronological context, it becomes increasingly difficult and inefficient for users who have bookmarked a large number of threads across various forum categories.
Many of us bookmark threads for different reasons! We track ongoing discussions within a specific topic, we save reference materials related to a particular hobby, we document important site announcements, we keep tabs on our favorite game forum – the list goes on! The current single-list format makes it challenging to quickly locate relevant bookmarked content with everything mixed together and scrolling through potentially hundreds of links sorted only by last post date can be time-consuming and frustrating.
Therefore, I propose that the bookmarks section be enhanced to allow users to organize and view their bookmarked threads categorized by the forum they belong to. This could be as simple as breaking up the bookmarks with text headers associated to the appropriate forum category, but I also see potential to use tabs, dropdown menus, filters, or tags.
I also want to acknowledge a previous suggestion made in March 2012 that proposed the implementation of folders for bookmark organization. This idea resonated with many community members, gathering approximately 400 supporters over the past 13 years. While my current suggestion focuses on organization by forum category, I believe it addresses a similar core need for better bookmark management and honors the spirit of that original proposal.
Implementing this change would significantly improve the usability and organization of the bookmarking feature. Users would be able to quickly access the bookmarked threads relevant to their current interests or needs, leading to a more efficient and enjoyable experience on the site. It would also make the bookmarking function a more powerful tool for managing and revisiting valuable content.
Bookmarking threads is perhaps one of the best ways for users to navigate through the site and I think it would mean a lot to many of the community members here if the feature included some level of organization beyond what it already provides.
Thank you for your consideration!
