Merlin Ang, a descendant of the ones who ruled the sea, the ones who destroyed many's lives, all in one swoop. Once believed to be the worst one of them all, as nobody knew why there were still so many casualties, seeing as his parents had been slain years ago. Where was Merlin? In a cave somewhere? Hiding out for the perfect moment? Surely, he had to have been planning the attack that would put an end to mankind, living up to his family's expectations, even exceeding them. When in reality, he was doing the opposite of what they wanted, training and fighting against them. In reality, his parents hadn't been slain, instead were taking on a new persona, to put all eyes and thoughts on Merlin, causing collective anxiety and panic amongst the entire nation. How could they put all of this pressure on him? How could they expect him to follow through with the evil plan they intended for him to execute? Did his family know that he had got a crew together? That he'd been the one killing off their ever-growing army the entire time since he set off on his exhibition years back?
His crew was still growing, as so had their army. Calling in backup on a few occasions, only when they were severely outnumbered. Only had minor cuts and bruises up until one point when they just got too powerful, even for Merlin to fight off.
"Any news on their location?" Merlin questioned the navigator, anxious to meet the new crew. "They're in the storm currently, they should be here soon though." with that, Merlin gestured with a quick nod.
It was now past sunset, getting to the darker time of day, and then they saw it, the ship that stored the new crew. Once the ship was close enough, Merlin could count the crew members, 18, was this enough? He wasn't sure but he knew it was better than nothing.
"Welcome aboard" Merlin gestured to the new members, in a friendly yet serious tone, as the crew was switching boats. Then he saw her, the most beautiful one he's ever seen. He knew love was forbidden aboard any ship, especially in the enviroment they were in. Was she good enough to risk the luck?
"Faster!" Merlin yelled at his crew, wanting them to up their pace. The crew knew that Merlin wouldn't injure them, he just wanted to push them to their limit, to improve them in every area possible. A typical day aboard consisted of lots of training, fishing, farming kelp, as well as even quality time. Every goobie aboard had a job, some being cooks, some being farmers, some even just being emotional support. The goobies aboard had very different lives compared to Merlin's. Merlin grew up training 24/7, being controlled, not being able to explore, nothing. Whereas the others' lives were jam-packed with excitement, things that Merlin could only dream of doing.
The crew was well bonded with each other, nobody being strangers to each other, no often fights, nothing, they were all like family. They were all Merlin could ever want, they felt like true family to him. The closest to family aboard were 2 twin brothers aboard, but everyone saw each other as family members rather than co-workers. Some had partners waiting at home for them, some had family waiting at home, and some had no one. Each week, everyone would gather around for drinks and to write notes to place in the ocean to drift back home in the glass bottles they drank from. While sitting at the head of the table, Merlin would often catch himself staring at the goobie he's had aboard from the new crew, Sherilynn. He was willing to risk it all for her, even if it ended in the worst for him.
The waves were crashing against the boat like it had no business, wrecking the boards with the salty sea water that made up the entire ocean. The crew had taken a partial day off of training to take a mental break, to help calm the nerves of the crew. Merlin didn't know what would happen or how it would end up being, but he had a bad feeling about the next few days. "What could happen? Would it result in death? Would it result in losing Sherilynn? No..." Merlin talked to himself mentally, hoping to not lose the one he has grown to get feelings for the day they met. Love aboard the vessel was known to be bad luck to all sailors, especially if you hadn't boarded the ship already in the relationship. Maybe this was a sign? Could love for another truly ruin the lives of others? Even possibly the one you love?
It all happened so quickly, the storms coming out of nowhere, no land around to be seen. Merlin's crew has thinned out, the crew being thrown to sea by the various enemies they have sought out to fight, ending the legacy that shouldn't have started in the first place, yet it did. The sloshing of the sea against the ship was enough to wake anyone aboard, but when did they ever have a good night's rest?
They all drew their swords, jabbing at the tentacles that wrapped around the ship. They hadn't succeeded as quickly as they wanted to, in fact, Merlin didn't see it as them giving their all. Seeing the majority of his crewmembers unconscious in the water set him off, Merlin was filled with rage, a rage they hadn't seen before. Merlin drew his sword and lunged at the creature whose limbs were wrapped tightly around the ship. Slicing at the creature, Merlin had successfully cut the massive enemy away. Merlin thought it was all over until he got pulled into the sea from behind him.
It was almost as if it came out of a movie, the two were fighting underwater. Merlin repeatedly got grabbed and thrown around under the surface, causing him to be in a daze. Merlin knew he couldn't just give up, the one he loved was aboard terrified she would lose the one she had only met not too long ago. The thoughts set something off in his head, he had to do this, he had to win, for her.
His crewmates knew he would end up moving on eventually, but they didn't know when or in what circumstance, they didn't expect it to be through their death, and through the abandonment of others, through the destruction of his parents' creations. He hadn't realized, that Benji and his crew taking him and Sherilynn in that they wouldn't have survived the currents that night. He was extremely thankful of Benji's reroute, and extremely thankful for him and his entire crew.
While onboard, he has taken on many new hobbies he hasn't heard of before, his favorite being baking.
FIN.
