- was a con-man and corporate thief in the future (space privateer)
- stole an experimental time travelling technology under contract
- on their way to deliver it, was intercepted by the company it was stolen from and in a desperate attempt to escape, activated the device hoping to jump back a few days to have forewarning of the position they would need to avoid
- overshot by just a little and ended up back in 1980 resulting in the reporting of the cash - landrum ufo incident
