(In case it gets confusing - Kora is her kittypet/loner name, Gannetkit is her Clan name, referred to whenever it's the present xp)
Her earliest memories were of her mother and her brother.
These were Kora's fondest days. There was no responsibility, no duties; only playing and eating.
She looked a lot like her mother. Instead of green and blue eyes, like her, her gaze was a soft amber; comforting her throughout her first moons. She was there as they roughhoused, to break them apart when needed. She took equal care to each. To Kora, she was a protector.
When she became older, she'd often play with a feather toy. It was hers! Nobody else could touch it (and took care to enforce her delicate rule)! It had colorful pink and yellow feathers, with an orange and white ball attached to it. Perhaps Kora played with it too tough - though her mother warned that it was too big for her - whatever that meant - with sweet success, she pried one free! The biggest accomplishment of her life yet, she was proud of her bold feat. When it disappeared one day, she was the saddest she'd ever been; she'd lost her shining trophy, her biggest accomplishment.
As she recalled her memory, it seemed to soothe her soul. She'd heard about leaders receiving their nine lives in odd ways; Thistlestar described it as a "surge of emotion"; while some blazed through her like fire, there was one in particular that brought her a vision of her memories in the nursery. She described it as so, "A powerful scene with a scent of milk and the feel of warm fur, with the affection of my mother watching over me; it served as a reminder of how important nursery guardians truly can be." Of course, Gannetkit also heard the tales of how Redstar quickly abolished them as soon as he became leader.
Perhaps it was something like that.
She would never forget her kittypet life; she would never forget her mother.
Kora forgave her mother for having to take them out. She didn't believe that it was to get rid of them; Kora felt in her heart that that wasn't the case. Why would she? She loved the two, didn't she?
She also loved the days of playing with her brother. It seemed they had grown up too fast by the time they left - he was far too interested in impressing her father, she not as much. She remembered the days of tussling around with Sun, triumphantly coming on top at times and sometimes - not as much. Her best memory with him happened during these times; in fact it was the last day they were together.
She would sit by the window and watch the birds, fluttering in the air and soaring around; she liked them, how pretty and petite they seemed to be (like her, she decided) - Sun never seemed to be interested in this activity.
โWhatโs so fun about this?โ he asked once, sitting himself by her. โYouโre just watching birds!โ
โSo what? Theyโre pretty and they make fun noises! Just โcuz you donโt like it doesnโt mean I canโt!โ she retorted, staring closer to the window.
โ...whatever. I guess Iโll stay, even if this is bor-ing!โ he said, and sat by her. That was the first and last time she recalled anything like this happening; an even and equal compromise. Not that they hated each other, they grew - distant? Not that different Clans seemed to help, either.
To Gannetkit, the nursery had never had the same warmth or protection as she had felt then; her gift was the last she'd have left of her old life; her cherished life.
