Spring

Lights flickered uneasily as the harsh wind batted the windows with rain and leaves. I could hear the voices around me, but they were muffled and unclear. I could hear the fearless wind, the rain, the anger that waited for us outside. Through the thick walls of my shell, I could see the lights flashing on and off. Some seemed to be shaking, but I never kept my eyes open long enough to tell. There was a loud crash of thunder, making my body twitch with fear.
In my movements, I felt my walls breaking against my back paws. Cracking and crunching, I was sucked down out of the void I'd created. My first thoughts in this new world were simple ones; it's cold. I could hear the voices clearly now, the excitement in their tone made me feel ill.
"So you really have done it. The x-rays prove real and it lives to see this miserable day." I didn't understand what they were saying at the time, but words like 'amazing' and 'scientific' kept popping up. I lay there for a while on my side, eyes closed and wishing the cold would stop sinking into my bones. They talked for what felt like an eternity before rough hands gently lifted me. They offered me no heat, I lay limp in his scaly grasp.
He wraps me in soft fur, setting me down on a hard surface and shutting the door. The door creaks went he moves it, I wondered why. It took me three days to open my eyes, but it only took a moment for me to know there was nothing worth looking at.
