Kunal turned to go find the path again, although it wasn’t much of the path with how deep he had gone into the forest. He was disoriented from tripping and his paw was becoming more bothersome. “This is all just karma… I’ll have to try again tomorrow or my paw is going to get infected from all this crud on the ground, ugh!” using his wing, he smacked branches off a shrub in the undergrowth to put out some anger and turned to leave. Using his compass, he checked to find west, knowing he had come into the forest from the eastern direction but the needle didn’t seem to change directions no matter what way he faced. Beginning to panic, Kunal figured he could trace the trampled ground cover back to the path. He couldn’t have gone that far away, right? He squatted down to look at the ground, but everything had seemingly grown back over itself and looked as if no one had touched it in a million years. Kunal’s mind started spinning as his heart rate picked up in fear. Did he really get lost? How was he going to get out?

Kunal was scared, hurt, panicked, and decided his best option was just to run. Run anywhere, run until he could get out. The forest couldn’t be that big right? Soon he found out that the forest seemed endless. Kunal was losing the little hope he had about getting out. The rumors were getting to his head and the pain in his paw increased as dirt entered the wound. He had been walking all day in the same direction with no signs of an exit to the forest. His legs were sore, daylight was fading, and he had run out of snacks and water already. He swore he was seeing white things at a distance, but shrugged it off thinking it was just due to being exhausted and famished. “I just gotta keep moving…” he muttered to himself. His head hung low in defeat as he limped through the undergrowth past long trailing vines hanging from the old trees. The forest seemed ancient and almost taunting him, the sounds of the birds chirping almost laughing at him. For sure he was going crazy! But, Kunal kept on walking at a steady pace until nightfall. Not even moonlight could penetrate the dense forest canopy so Kunal considered stopping for the day. Not even his scales could reflect any light that managed to escape through the trees.

Keldines may be good at hunting at night and should be adapted to woodland life in the dark, but the trees were so thick no light from the mood reached the forest floor. Kunal couldn’t see very well, or see where he was going. It might be best to stop for the night he thought...
Stop.

Deciding that sleep was probably his best option, he curled up covering himself with his wings under a dense shrub and dozed off almost instantly. Deep into the night, leaves rustled loudly a short distance away. It had sounded like a strong gust of wind, but the night was perfectly still.
Wake up.

Kunal couldn’t help but succumb to sleep. His eyes slowly closed, and just as they closed a white keldine-like apparition appeared. Kunal saw what looked like bright paws standing a few feet ahead of him and jolted back awake. However, there was nothing in the vicinity to be seen. “This better be some weird fever dream I can’t wake up from, ugh!” He rolled over in frustration and snapped his eyes shut before he saw some other freaky trick of the mind.
Wake up.

Kunal gasped and woke up from a nightmare that he couldn’t see. He glanced around and realized he wasn’t protected by the cover of the shrub he fell asleep under anymore. In fact, he was in a totally new place. “What the… how… how did I get here? Was I sleep walking?” The arrangement of the trees was oddly geometric and unnatural. The large trees towered in rings from a central clearing where Kunal had woken up. The grass was soft and things seemed eerie yet peaceful. Kunal got up and stretched his stuff body, checking on his paws. He scowled at the dirty cut the thorn had made the previous day and his swollen paw pad. He knew there wasn’t anything to do for it until he got out of this forest.
just give me a minute
Investigate the clearing.
Leave to escape.
