“Sierra!!” the young Celia yelled just as Sierra threw a snowball in her direction, it exploding on impact. “I-I-” Sierra couldn’t spit out her words between her short gaspings for air. Sierra eventually fell over from laughing too much, over the fact that Celia was now covered head-to-toe in snow. “Okay I guess it is a little funny…” Celia spoke, joining her friend in her own laughing fit. “Girls come inside, I’ve got hot chocolate for you two!” Carmen yelled from the entrance of their home. The duo faced eachother, Sierra breaking the silence, “Race ‘ya!” she said before sprinting off.

When inside the home, the duo was greeted by hot chocolate topped with fluffy marshmallows, warm blankets, the fireplace lit, as well as a sweet moving playing on the television. Before the girls knew it, they were falling asleep all cuddled up on the couch of Celia’s living room.

As the sun was setting and the moon came out, Sierra, Celia, and Celia’s brother, Rydan, sat around the dinner table as Carmen was placing their plates in front of each of them. After everyone had sat down and dug into their dinner, Sierra had helped Carmen bring all of the dirty dishes over to the sink to get cleaned. “Thank you darlin’,” Carmen spoke, thankful for Sierra’s help with the dishes. “I’ve actually got a gift for you, let me go grab it for you real quick.” She said, quick to turn around and head to the direction of her bedroom. When she got back, she had told Sierra to close her eyes and hold her hands out. Sierra was a little weary of what was to come but she complied, shutting her eyes and cupping her hands in-front of her. Carmen had placed the item in her hands, Sierra opened her eyes, being greeted with a necklace in her hands. She had noticed the purple crystal hanging from it as well, loving the sparkle that the gem gave off. “It’s beautiful Ms. Carmen!! Thank you!!” Sierra exclaimed, embracing her in a hug. “Of course

As time passed, the night grew dark, signaling that it was time for Sierra to go home. With that, Sierra had collected all of her belongings, and looked down at her necklace one more time that night and started on her trek back home.

[PRESENT DAY] RESTLESS

Few noises were coming from Sierra’s home, the source being her tossing and turning in her silk sheets, unable to sleep that night. There was a glare that shined directly on her eyes but… what could it be shining off of? Sierra silently thought to herself, on if she should just suck it up and attempt to sleep or if she should investigate what on Earth the glare could be from. Sierra rose out of bed, to her surprise finding nothing. Sierra grumbled, thinking it must have gone away but she was soon greeted with the same glare, opening her eyes once again. This time, she didn’t move out of bed, maybe she had to be at a certain angle for it to shine directly on her face? Sierra looked down, seeing that the culprit of the shining had been around her neck the whole time. It was her gemstone necklace the whole time! How could she have not thought of the already shiny gemstone tied around her neck?

Sierra was inspecting the necklace as there was no light source bright enough to make it glare so much, until the glare suddenly moved to her front door? “What is going on…?” Sierra grogilly commented. Sierra had now gotten fully out of bed, opening the front door, the glare moving to the mailbox, stood at the edge of the path leading into the rest of the small icy town. She thought for a second, was she really about to follow some weird light out of her house in the middle of the night? Well, of course she was! Sierra quickly threw on some shoes and a warm coat and went out to the mailbox, she peered inside seeing that a piece of rolled parchment had been placed inside. “Didn’t I…” Sierra thought, thinking about how she already collected today’s mail. Sierra shrugged then pulled the emerald ribbon’s ends, unravling the parchment. “Coordinates? How on Earth do I find where these lead?” She hadn’t thought about how she hadn’t been able to sleep about 10 minutes prior, she was now invested in what the necklace she had kept strung around her neck for years entailed.

Sierra bundled up in warm clothing, packing a bag full of various drinks and berries, before setting off on her adventure. Could the necklace be leading her into danger? Possibly, but Sierra thought she would take her chances, seeing as it was practically fate.

SO IT BEGINS…

Sierra had set off on her trip, following the glare into a chilly valley, iced over lakes scattered around the surrounding areas. Her teeth started chattering, fur raised on the arms and neck as a chilling gust of wind blew through the trees. “-and to think I could be all cozy in bed right now…” She whispered under her breath while trudging through the deep snow.

After a while, Sierra had stumbled upon some wooded areas, intrigued by the snow covered trees. Adventuring into the forested area, she caught sight of various sleeping animals of all kinds. Sierra silently trotted through the woods, jumping a little when a sprinting hare would cross her path. She had exited the other side of the forest, meeting a different valley. Looking back at the forest, she noticed an owl was now following her. Did they want to help lead her to wherever the coordinates pointed to?

PARTNER IN CRIME

The owl soared up, way high above Sierra, as if they were her eyes from the sky. Sierra kept trotting through the deep frosty snow, seeing if she could spot anything other than snow covered hills from her level, but she was all out of luck. While Sierra was looking around at their surroundings, the owl dove down to her level, startling her in the act. The owl started to walk in a different direction, had they found something? Sierra pondered to herself on what would appear from over the hilled horizon, which she would soon find out. As the newly bonded duo slowly trudged up the hill, there they saw it. A small village, like the one back home, yet smaller.

The two of them made their way on over to the dimly lit village, once there sitting together on a bench close to the lit fire. Sierra pulled out some berries from her bag, feeding them to the owl. As Sierra fed the berries to her new friend, she took a closer look at her pendant. “It just doesn’t make sense… Where is this silly thing leading me?”

After warming themselves by the fire for a while, they decided it would be best to set back off on their journey, to the mysterious place the glare had led them.

SNACK BREAK

They had searched and searched the new valley, not finding much of anything they hadn’t seen before. *grumble grumble* The sound prompted Sierra to look down at her stomach, realizing she hadn’t had much to eat on her little exhibition. She had looked around at her surroundings, searching for a place to sit and snack on her packed treats. Once they had found a fallen over tree to use as a bench, Sierra had pulled one of her mittens off, a cold front being brushed against her now bare hand. Sierra pulled a small granola bar out to munch on before hopefully ending up at their destination.

THE ARRIVAL…

After setting off again, the paired duo stumbled upon a mountain scape, one unlike the others they’ve seen on their trip. She couldn’t place her finger on it but, this one felt… different…? Walking up to the various cave entrances, they immediately took notice of the ominously glowing cave. Should they explore it? Was it a good or bad glow? “Well… We did come all of this way…” Sierra spoke up, facing towards the owl perched on her shoulder. Sierra took a deep breath before walking confidently into the glowing cave.

The deeper and deeper they explored, the crazier and brighter her pendant got. “This has got to be it…” Sierra whispered under her breath. The cavern walls were barren and a sleet gray color. The two adventurers made their way down deep enough for specks of small gemstones sprinkled all around, Sierra being down to collect a few. “Well I sure am glad this necklace glows… If it didn’t we would definitely be out of luck!” She sounded, giving a small smirk to her owl friend, perched atop of some crystals.

“Oh my.. gob…” Sierra gasped. Sierra and the owl had come across something special, could this really be it? She had looked down at her necklace, seeing the pendant glowing so brightly, it even bouncing a little off of her chest. They had finally reached their destination, a string of caverns covered from the floor to the roof in crystals and gemstones of all types and colors. “Amethyst.. emeralds, even opal!” Sierra said, testing her jewel knowledge. She took one strap of her backpack off, spinning it around to reach inside to grab her polaroid out. *CLICK! CLICK!* sounded the small turquoise camera, Sierra capturing this memory for eternity.

Sierra picked up a few small gemstones that had been previously broken off, un-wanting to damage any of the other growing stones. She had picked up a couple gemstones to make necklaces and other jewelry to give to her closest of friends and family, wanting them to see the beautiful caverns she had found that cold snowy night.
