Hello! I'm a long-time roleplayer that has been from platform to platform over the years, and I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for Tumblr as one of those platforms and why I think the RPC needs help continuing.
I currently run several blogs pertaining to RP on Tumblr — Two OC blogs and one canon multimuse where I write characters like Sarabi (Lion King), Copper (The Fox and the Hound), and Albert Mason (Red Dead Redemption II). Something I have been pleased with in the past few years is that the concept of rp blogs is something continuing, but I worry sometimes that as generations go on, it's going to die out.
Now, do I know how long Tumblr is going to last as a platform, considering how incompetent their staff and founder is? No. But, I have been through no less than several scares where everyone swore up and down that it was the end, and the site is still very much running.
I like the community that can be built. It takes a moment to understand the etiquette and common practices behind writing, but falling into a good crowd can help you learn a ton in a short span of time. There are blogs such as this one, which help understand the common ground of the RPC. How to write threads, canon vs. OC, etc.
It's not without its fair share of drama, and by no means do I recommend that people under 18 just go in blindly. Unfortunate as it is, proper moderation is definitely lacking, and these days it's more of a space for young adult users. But I genuinely love the formatting that can be done, and the general layout of the site. I can even "mobile-prep" my rp threads so that I can just edit them and finish replies from my phone. It's wonderful.
I'm so grateful for the people I have met. It takes real care to make sure you're not falling in with the wrong people, but I really think the years have wisened me. I like being able to show off my writing while it's still individual 1-on-1 threads. I love using my icons and even designing my own for OCs. I love seeing the dedication and care put into other's OCs and how passionate they are.
Does anyone else have thoughts / feelings in regard to this? Have any of you been in the Tumblr RPC, and are you interested in joining? I'd love to see more people enter the scene
