So I'm planning to do a Red Dragon lineage that goes all the way to 100 as a project, with just Caveborn and Purebred, any ideas on how to be the most efficient?

Yo congrats, that's something I'm trying to do myself. Groups will definitely help keep you organized as you go on in generations, same as labeling what generation you are on in their names. Best of luck to you!

I find it interesting how people when they put up trades want a dragon kin from a specific group, so basically asking a single person for something. Because groups only belong to one person so they're saying "Hey I'm offering this for a prizekin from you." Which in reality, is weird because you'd think that they'd be looking for any not from a specific person. I can bet there's another lineage involving a 2nd gen prizekin that isn't from that person that someone could offer up I just don't get why people do it because probably the people who are on Dragcave and have that group probably aren't interested, so why not give everyone else a chance? I just think it's a weird concept.

Actually when they link to a group like that they're usually linking to one of their own groups that contains certain kinds of lineages that they're looking for. Often people are looking for mates for those dragons that they may not be able to breed themselves. Hope that makes more sense.

Hey! Hm... I think the biggest thing is to not let your eggs get too many views too quickly, especially if they're freshly laid/caught. The best rule of thumb is to wait at least a day before adding them to "click sites" or forum signatures, etc. I personally usually wait until my eggs are 4 days old or less before I put them on any click sites. If they get too many views they run the risk of getting sick and possibly dying. Hatchlings can get sick too if they get too many views. But if you notice any of your eggs or hatchlings are sick (the site will actually notify you at the top of your scroll when any are) you can temporarily "Hide" them from receiving views by going to their Actions page. Once they're no longer sick you can unhide them, though I would wait maybe an hour or two before unhiding them just to make sure they don't get sick again.

Hmm possibly as for getting started there's a wiki all about Dragon Cave that you can view lots of the dragon types. If you're trying to get a specific dragon like a Red Dragon, the wiki can provide information where to find them and their BSA (Breed Specific Action if I remember right) if they have it. Then there's raffles you can enter where you can get specific dragons that are only obtainable there, and can be used to make lineages, or family trees that can be from the same species or two different species. There's also alternates, also known as alts. Certain dragons like Undine and Black Dragon offspring can possibly be an alternate, giving them a different look. There's also hybrids you can get as well! Dragon Cave has a lot to offer and this is just a basic guide to breeding honestly haha

Click sites are your friend, however, and get you lots of views. And there are special dragons from events that can be stolen from the event cave or abandoned egg cave.

What I want to know: uh,, how the heck do you understand the trade notes and terminology? How do you get a higher rank that lets you have more hatchlings? Any other things I should know?

I hate how the dragcave forum is a seperate (very un-user friendly) site that doesn’t even approve your posts, so I’ll ask any questions I have here!

Edit: what is the best click site to use? Right now I’m using a few and still not getting too many views, and I’m impatient and just want my dragons to grow so I can adopt some more

heya! welcome back to the dragcave 'flock' haha ;v;

by trade notes terminology, could you give a specific example? if the trade notes mention a certain type of lineage (for example, "3G Checker/G. Shimmer", that means a 3rd Generation egg/hatchling which was bred with a Golden Shimmer Dragon: here's a specific example of that // another example is e.g. when someone asks for a sAlt, that means that they want a dragon which is an offspring of a Spriter's Alt). here's also a link to dragcave-specific terminology that will help with your other queries regarding trade note abbreviations.

regarding rank, you can have a look at the egg limits here. it lists how many adult dragons you require to obtain a certain rank and be able to get more eggs. what I did to move up ranks when I first joined was I just stayed rooted in the AP (Abandoned Page) and nabbed all the eggs with low time/with less than 5 days remaining and bombed them with views on click sites so they would grow up as quickly as possible (+ with the help of Red Dragons, as their BSA helps to shorten the time the egg has). obviously you can do this whichever way you want, since the way I went about this meant that I ended up with a lot of dragons with bad lineages haha ;; I was quite young at the time anyway, so I'll blame it on that

now onto click sites. dragcave.fandom.com recommends a nice list of click sites - the ones I would recommend highly are Allure of Neglected Dragons, Valley Sherwood, and The Hatching Club. I use a combination of those three (mostly the first two sites though) to obtain enough views for my eggs/hatchlings. you can select which eggs in particular you want to add as well.
note: one of the click sites doesn't allow you to take off your egg if it's getting too many views, even if you hide it. I believe that's the Egg Drop Soup, so I'd only use that site if your egg/hatchling is on the verge of dying and desperately needs views!

if I'm perfectly honest, I think that the dragcave wiki is a very good resource for answering your questions. they have links to all the different dragons, all the egg types with egg descriptions, a page for each time there's an event/a new release... with almost 500 articles, it really answers every question you have, and even goes into detail for breeds and what their creators envisioned for them! I can't recommend that site enough :,)

I really hope this helps! if you need any other help or want to get more hatchlings, I just nabbed some vampires from the AP which have pretty good lineages, and I'm happy to give them to you if you'd like (I'm just waiting for them to become hatchlings first, but if you'd like I can send them as eggs as well)!

edit: forgot to mention, but dragcave now has a market where you can buy eggs instead of having to nab them from the cave. the dragcave wiki explains this in more detail, so defo have a read of that, but more importantly:


Every egg in the Market costs at least 100 Shards. If the player chooses to buy an egg from the Market, they'll be taken to a screen to confirm their purchase. Eggs are nonrefundable, are not immune to sickness, cannot be traded and have their habitat listed as "Market".


egg prices can also fluctuate. for example, the Staterae Xenowyrm was 4,300 shards or so when I first started saving up for it (about a year ago), but now it's 5,100 shards and I still have yet to achieve it lol. you also cannot buy eggs on the market until you've unlocked their breed in the encyclopedia, which you can do by viewing eggs/hatchlings/adults. for this, I recommend browsing the click sites and clicking on the specific breed you're trying to unlock, and then perusing people's scrolls for a specific breed to unlock their encyclopedia page :)
hybrid breeds are not available on the market, since you need to breed certain dragons to obtain them.

another thing - you can now group your dragons for more ease of access. e.g., I have a group specifically dedicated to my Valentine's dragons, since my dragons are ordered by their Breed Name, which means the event dragons are not grouped together.

oh! and just one final thought - you are more likely to get rarer breeds from the cave when another hour passes (i.e. at 01:00, or 02:00 etc etc), the better breeds get generated on the hour, so I'd recommend scanning the cave at those times if you wish to get rarer dragons - though this isn't definite, I believe it's random when/if rarer breeds pop up. familiarise yourself with the egg descriptions on the dragcave wiki (their pages list their rarity), and yeah, that should help <:

and finally, just to reiterate, if you need any help with obtaining certain dragons or breeds, feel free to ask me! I'm very happy to breed dragons for you/look out for certain CB (caveborn) eggs for you <:
