You can actually very simply revert your game back to 1.8.8 and when you want to, switch it back to 1.10. All you would need to do is open your Minecraft client. Once it has loaded and before you press "play", select the option in the bottom left corner that says "Edit Profile". Once you've done this, the profile editor will open on the screen. Near the bottom of this you will find an option that says "use version". This option will have a drop down menu available. Simply select 1.8.8 out of that list and apply/save the settings. Then hit the play button and it will load the game in 1.8.8 so that you can use the server.

If you wish to play 1.10 all you would need to do is follow the steps above but select the 1.10 option.
