I think that’s a fine idea! I personally don’t like extremely anime art, but that’s only my opinion.

but do you still mean cartoonish but with real anatomy ? ( like cs, and many others )
take this dog for example, the anatomy you can clearly tell it's a dog, but it's got cartoonish eyes so the lineart
is a bit cartoonish / simplified to fit the style of the eyes.

(this is a terrible old example, but do you mean like this? I was aiming more for some sort of realism, thus i didn't add cartoonish eyes )
ALSO! ; is the lineart going to be thin, or thick?

@ the art style:

Lioden style won't be on the table as long as I'm on the art team. It would make the palette very limited (due to shading filters req'd) and, if we ever switched artists, it would mean that future artists would have a hard time matching it (and they'd hate y'all). I would not in good conscience do that (and further, it would take 5x the work).

My personal style, as well as ToastedTea (or so it appears), veers little more realistic, shading-wise, than CS. Try looking at something between CS and Aywas- that's the kind I personally had in mind signing up; it seems to be preferred by most. Simplified but realistic anatomy, a little more detail and texture. Unlike here I would want us to keep lighter or coloured lineart, which isn't hard to do and will take away some of the cartoonishness.

E:
Also guys, I realised while I was doing the new pet survey: a lot of the ones suggested are humanoids. Have we decided where we're drawing the line? Because I love the idea of faeries and trolls but I wouldn't want them to be too human-like.

I’m against the humanoid idea, I feel that would develop into a character thing like Eldemore and Aywas, and it wouldn’t feel original. Also it’s pretty difficult to make humanoids unique lol

Oh my gosh that is beautiful!

Also @armadillosushi
Do you have any examples of this? I would love to look and understand what you are talking about.

I personally want something more realistic than CS. (Griffins eeek!!!) For the style of art.

Also agreeing with @CollectorsEdition
I don't like the idea of humanoid creatures on the site... I just think it would be bad for it.

@vanishing pixie: I think something resembling CS style would be fine. I personally just want realistic anatomy.

I can understand the semi-realistic will be difficult, especially if we change artists.

As for humanoid, I don’t believe they will ultimately not be implemented. However, they were suggested and thus they will be voted on.

@Fallen_Angels ; I'm a bit confused, - wouldn't the lineart be made into a base for the artists to colour in?? So what's
difficult when you change artists?? Sorry if I'm missing out something !!

@ Honorchior ; Yes, I'd prefer more realistic linework than chickensmoothie, - but that's just my personal preference !!
( also, not to be rude ; but can you choose a darker colour for your text? It's a bit hard for me to read aha <3

@ The Humanoid Idea ; Maybe the humanoids could be NPCs? / Shop-owners ? Instead of being your avatar or a pet.

Better?

Anyways, yeah I like the ideas of Humanoid shop workers! Maybe they can host events too?

Oh wait! What if we had a humanoid represent the main Staff (owners/Admins)?! Sort of like Tess's pets that host events?
😊

@vanishing pixie: I believe the issue with it has to do with more realistic pets are harder to colour in, as some colors on some realistic bases won’t look good. Also, when new artists come in, and in the event we need new linearts for a new species, they may find it hard to try and match the preexisting linearts already featured on the site.

Overall, I would prefer a more realistic artstyle compared to CS, and I see a few other staff agree with me.

Humanoid NPCs and admin characters sounds cool! They could be useful for all sorts of things- shopkeepers, news posts, and events too :D

@vanishing pixie
Even with simple stuff here on CS it's not "lines to colour in." It's a base. Colour blocks, lines, detail lines, area shade, texture shade, soft lights hard light, secondary lighting and pin lights. For every. Single. Pet. Wanna add hair? Better know how to replicate the style for every single layer. Making a brand new species? Same deal, but less forgiving.
So it's not about "harder to colour in." It's about 20 or 30 hours of work vs. 10 or vs. 5. Artists do more than colour in. XD
And for examples I'm out a portfolio ATM. Tablet turned into a brick. This is a simpler example- didn't quite get it done- but the kind of mix I'm talking about: https://postimg.org/gallery/1kcyroa7w/
