I adopted a band of curious kitties and one (1) extra grumpy boy

Are there just two outcomes?

Yeah that's not a split, thats just a two day old newborn. Same as with the monthly eggs. Not a split.

A split is when a pet that is no longer in it's newborn stage "splits off" into two different outcomes.
So say you have a 3 purple puppies, and they are all 4 days old. When Day five roles around, 2 of those puppies grow up into purple dogs, but one puppy remains a pup for another three days, where it grows into a pink dog. That would be considered a split.
