The pets are very rarely assigned a gender, even when they are given names it doesn't go into their true gender or orientation. Breeding pairs don't even say which is mean't to be the mother & which the father, it is all left up to the individual user to decide. It seems very stereotypical & actually quite the opposite of inclusive to assume that everyone who identifies as GLBTIQ is going to in some way look different to a hetro person/creature. If people do want to make their pets reflect their look/ideal they can always dress them up.
On event news that banner hammy is still evading me
- I think it was mostly about examples like the event NPCs, who do usually get referred to by specific pronouns (examples from this event being that Andromeda is referred to as she in text, and Az'it is explicitly given male pronouns), and that it could be interesting to mix this kind of stuff up a bit, too.
As far as pet designs go, they're all whatever users want them to be, that's true! And I think the dress-ups are already very diverse and oftentimes ambiguous.
So it's less about the pets as a whole having to be gendered somehow, and more just "hey it'd be kinda awesome if we had an NPC that doesn't go by either he or she", which I think is a fair point^^
I'ma gonna use the 2nd gen talk as a cue to shove this pic here again.
