okay i am super late to the event, how do i get the fish/items? Is it like usual events with banners at the bottom?

Fish are obtained by being second or third in the Fast Fins Racetrack. Items can be obtained at Barnacle Boutique and Avian and Totoro (for now).

You're not too late, actually, it's still just the first day.
To get the fish, you have to lose the race.
If the hamster you pick wins first, you get the hamster and a first place trophy item.
If they place second, you get three random fish items and a second place trophy.
If you place third, you get two random fish items and a third place trophy.

The pearls needed to play are earned through the banner at the bottom as usual.
