OK it is chaos but hear me out. I have had an easier time getting the less common outcomes by trying to swap as soon as possible. It's a pain to wade through all the trades or try and get noticed BUT the later you wait the more protective users get of the their extra less common outcomes. Take the bernese mountain dog for example. I posted looking for a BMD 30 mins after roll over. I got a simple 1 v 1 swap that was pretty painless. Just taking a peek a day after roll over and the demand is crazy for that outcome. Not even sure if it is the rarest of the pack x.x

That said totally up to you to avoid the hectic-ness that is the event swap

I panicked last night when I got to bed and realized I didn't adopt right at roll over, worried trading would be too difficult for any missed outcomes! I got lucky that it was just an item drop lol!
