2021 Advent & Hanukkah - Pet, Item & Event Discussion

This years Advent, in my opinion, is a bit subpar. Personally I hate and don’t collect rats, the hamsters yes but rats are a no. I have a literal handful because most of them are the types of rock rats from the cave event (which was also a bit subpar compared to to past Summer Events imo, despite finally getting dinos for an event.....but that is a different rant.) and one PPS rat because it is the blood orange rat and that is like one of my fave fruits. But disappointing. Hopefully I get good stuff on the 18th to make up for this. Or they stop. Doing. Rats.

The outcomes are all designed already so if there's more rats yet to come, then there's more rats. Or hamsters.

BUT I would assume the artists let each other know what they were doing so there wouldn't be any repeat themes/too similar litters so I'd think they wouldn't overload us on one or two species. Odds are they just all got bunched in together instead of being spread out and this may be the last of them. (if we get more rodents then you are free to let them eat my shoes as punishment :p)

It's a bit stifling of other opinions to say that no one is allowed to have an opinion other than liking something, though. You can be grateful for something and still not enjoy it or want it. Like how you might receive a gift on Christmas that you didn't particularly want, but you're still grateful that the person thought of you when they bought it for you. No one is saying that they're ungrateful, they're just saying that they're getting a bit tired of the abundance of rodents we've gotten so far. And as much as I have liked the pets we've gotten so far, I do have to agree that if we continue along this track, I may get a bit tired of it myself.

i'm definitely not suggesting that people stifle their opinions, but the negativity directed at the artists is a bummer, especially when they're members of the site; seeing a comment like this;

would be super disheartening imo and i just think we should try to be more positive/grateful as a community. i get the christmas gift analogy, but personally i wouldn't say "thanks but this isn't what i wanted!" to the gift-giver's face, which is essentially what people are doing to the artists/admins

i think it's interesting comparing this advent to ones in the past - we've definitely gotten a lot of rodents this year (42 so far), but here's how some of the other years stack up (this doesn't include rabbits, just rats/hampsters/pigs):

2015 - 37 rodents
2016 - 27 rodents
2017 - 19 rodents
2018 - 21 rodents
2019 - 15 rodents
2020 - 18 rodents

I do agree that people could be a bit nicer about things, but that's just how some people are. When you're an artist, comments like that just sort of come with the territory. Not saying that they should be, just that it's how things are.
I think that people who make such comments sometimes forget that the artists sometimes make these litters months in advance, and they don't really have much control over which litters get released when. Yes there are exceptions, but for the most part, once the artist submits their designs, it's out of their hands. The staff are also not doing this maliciously, or to spite the people who don't like any particular species/designs, they're just trying to please as many people as they can. No one is going to be happy with everything 100% of the time though, and it's totally valid to not like something and voice your opinion, as long as you're not being nasty about it.

The most annoying part about all this "rodent hate" is if they had been dogs, lions, dragons or some other popular species no one would have batted an eye.
We're usually overrun with dogs and no one cares. But the rats get a little attention for once and suddenly we don't get enough variety. Please, guys.

I personally like the pets we've gotten so far and the new tiny rats are adorable :)
