Maybe it's just me, but i never really thought there was much mystery to it? Masks just tend to smell, especially if they have been used by other people as they are good at trapping scents. It's a common trope used in shows where someone puts on, say, a gorilla suit and they complain about the smell.

This is exactly what I've always thought about it. Even just brand new Halloween masks have a strong smell. And since they're always so close to your nose, it makes it worse.

Yay!!! Finally got my El Dorado, the Military Macaw baby. Had to swap/trade one of my Scarlet macaw chicks, but well worth it.
