Ohh, wild west huh?
I wonder how they're gonna tackle the controversial stuff. When I think "wild west", I think "cowboys vs native Americans", you know.
This theme isn't just fiction, it's history, it actually happened and native Americans was a part of that.
...but knowing the "deerskin costume" ordeal I wonder if they're just gonna ignore the tough parts of history.
Either way, not a theme I'm the most excited for but we can still get some cool stuff from it. I'm thinking rattlesnakes, other reptiles, coyotes, bison, cacti, tumbleweed. Prairie stuff like that :D

Dogtreat answered a similar question earlier:
dogtreat wrote:just want to try to reassure people and worries ive already seen here: we've done our best to ensure that while the theme is "wild west" its more of a generic "west america" type of theme. focusing more on the overarching aesthetics of places like california, arizona, new mexico, utah, colorado, and even up into places like idaho and montana. we had multiple readovers of the theme and story to ensure it didnt contain anything that might cause distress.
also im super glad people seem to like the rat lineart!! i was very proud of the lil edits i made :> the colors of 2 of them are based after ratties I had a few years ago, the others are based on really neat rats and fancy mice i saw on reddit.

I hope we also get some outlaw stuff, that'd be cool.
Dare I hope for a carriage or saloon background? :0
Oh, themed backgrounds would be really cool. Carriages are also neat ideas. On that topic, other forms of transportation would be great to see- train interiors, covered wagons, stagecoaches... mail seems to be a major part of the plot so far so I'd kill to see something based off of the Wells Fargo wagons/stagecoaches they used to deliver mail back then.
Perhaps some Clydesdales to go with them, and perhaps delivering mail to other people in the town that comes with a sub-plot about Sheriff secretly funding the railroad!
AND THEN THE SHERIFF STARTS JAILING ALL OF THE POSTAL WAGON WORKERS SO THAT THE POST OFFICE FAILS.

I'm not really sure if there is an appropriate way to demonstrate the 'bad stuff', as I don't think anyone on CS staff is really qualified to make up a narrative on "this would be the good ending!".
If people want to do research, then maybe CS can include some informative articles on the sad history of native americans, and links that help support reservations or way to be eco-friendly to keep the environment healthy in those areas and all over. But otherwise I think it's just too brutal for CS, and any 'kid-friendly' way of describing the genocide and atrocities would just get called "lazy and insensitive".
The best they can do is possibly acknowledge native achievements and culture. They have sushi in the C$ store. They've made items for different cultures food. They've made kwanzaa and hanukkah pets. So they can do similar things without being offensive, and acknowledging culture.
to below: exactly. not sure what was being expected, this is just fun, aesthetic, desert, mesa, canyons n stuff. If anyone is concerned about history, then reading on your own time is a good idea, and then you can find a way to get the word out :)
For the medieval event they didn't talk about the different ways people were 'dispatched'. so why now?

We are a children's pet collecting site

We are not equipped to deal with the actual horrors of the wild west told through the medium of fun little pets you can dressup. We've instead done our best to ensure the event is fun and interesting, while remaining respectful of stories we have no place being the ones to tell.

I got the camo rat and now all I need to worry about is collecting tokens! :> Making sure I get all the lion cubs will be a struggle I'll save for tomorrow, I think.
