Trade-ins like this have always been random in the past, so I assume it's random.

Are the items you get by trading in random, or is there a certain tokens = certain items?

It's random regardless of which items you turn in, unless if the station only has one outcome.

will this be the same when trading pets for tokens? when there are multiple possibilities that is

You won't have to trade in pets, but if you meant it the other way around (tokens for pets) then yes.

The token combinations never matter at the stands, it's always either random chance or a single outcome ^^

Is there only a banner to get tokens from?
I know in the past there was somewhere else to click on the event page for tokens but I can’t find one.

what are the saplings used for? are they actual tokens to turn in something or just cute items to decorate your pets with? i havent seen a trade in yet that required them, yet again its only been an hour since the event started lol

CS also had a Squiddy background and last year they released one that looked almost identical.

They'll probably be used in future trade-ins, since they're listed in the "event token" section of the item inventory.
