Sadies Indepth Guide To The Rp Terms

I understand Chicken Smoothie have already covered the topics of Powerplaying and Godmodding although there are still many terms that have not been covered and I have seen a few members become very confused on what they are. Therefore I have decided to but together a guide to help explain some of the other terms which can be located within the role-playing area.

_______

General Terms

OCC
Out of character; means that the member is speaking as themself and not in the character as part of the rp. Can also be shown in brackets (( x )).

IC
In character; it means that they are going to be writing in the view of their character.

Cannon Character
A character from a tv show, book, story, or other source. In other words, it's not a character they created them-self.

Original Character
A character which the member created them-self and did not get from a tv show, film, book etc.

_______

Lengths Of Posts

Semi-literal
Semi-lit is basically asking for you to write one paragraph of text. The general size of the paragraph is around 4-6 lines of text although each person may have their own preferred paragraph length so it's a good idea to check with the rp owner if you are unsure or attempt to mirror post what they write.

Literal
Literal role-playing is when on member has to write a good few paragraphs of text every time they post. Once again, the number of paragraphs and their lengths may vary between who the owner of the rp is.

Mirror Posting
If neither semi-lit or literal are requested by the owner of the rp then generally you are expected to mirror post. Mirror posting is when you try to write around the same length of text as the persons characters post as you are responding to. This is kind of common courtesy as imagine some-one writes about five lines and then you respond with only one, it's a little unfair on the person who put more effort in, it may seem like you just can not be bothered to respond to them.

_______

General Rp Rules

Meta-Rping
Meta-rping is the use of information obtained outside of the character and put forward into the rp.
This can include reading over what has been posted while your character was not present and then your character being fully aware of what happened without being there, it's almost like you going out and then coming home and magically knowing everything everyone had done while you were gone.
It can also include starting with a crush or mate because your character has not met the character they are crushing on therefore how do they know they will like this character?

Mary-Sues and Gary-Sues
Mary-Sues and Gary-Sues (anything that is similarly related to that saying) is basically having the ideal character. It's basically a character that had no weaknesses, is the most powerful, looks the most beautiful etc. It's basically a character which is perfect. ( Having a character like this can also be considered as a god modded character depending on circumstances.)

Lorebreaking
Lorebreaking is basically breaking the laws of physicals or reality. So for example, characters being in one place and then all of a sudden have moved to another, characters with apposable thumbs that don't naturally have them or having powers that they wouldn't have in the rp. Role-plays with powers have the exception to this rule although characters may only have characters which are previously stated, so say your character did not have the power to fly but started flying, this would be law breaking.

Autohitting
This is basically when your character either attacks or communicates with another character but before they can respond, you move your character away before the other member has a chance to respond. This can be done in either the same post or multiple posts. This is often a way to manipulate others characters, people don't like it, it can be a form of god-modding.

Love at first sight.
This often refers to characters starting with crushes or characters falling in love only a few posts or pages into the rp. The reason most people put this rule is because a lot of rps have a tendency to join a rp, post a few lines with a character and then suddenly be together. It just reduces the development in the characters and it makes an rp focused completely on being together in a relationship where as not all rps are meant to be that way.

Double Posting
This is when you post a second post under your last post or you quote your post constantly because you want some-one to respond quicker. This isn't needed and it can be considered spam. Instead of posting a second time, edit your previous post and add more in. As for quoting, it's advised to only quote your post if you notice the person has come online and posted but missed your post or if the rp has moved on a few pages and you think your post could get lost.

An exception to this rule is bumping a thread that has gone inactive for a day or more.

_______

Image Terms

Referenced Images
Basically means you need to follow the Chicken Smoothie site image reference rules.

Anime Image
Anime ('An-i-may') means Japanese animation. Anyone asking for an anime image is asking for an image in the style of Japanese animation.

Real Image
A photo image, pretty self explanatory.

Natural Colored Characters
Basically means that the colors have to be real and natural colors. Therefore there would be no blue eyed adult wolves, no green haired humans (unless dyed that color) or no rainbow horses etc.

_______

I believe that is all of the general rp rules, if I have missed some then please let me know, I can't seem to think of any more.
I hope this will help some people out. :3
Thanks for reading. :)
