Lacuna, just one thing that I know is obvious:
If someone doesn't want you to use their image, why put it on Google? Many people learn copy and paste in primary school, so chances are copyrighted images may be being used by young children without them knowing what copyright is. If someone doesn't want you to use that image, why do they even put it up? If I had a private manga piece thay I didn't want anyone to use at all, I wouldn't post it on Google, Bing, deviantart, etc.

It happens that google indexes photos the same way he does with webs, so he gets the photos you have online even if you dont want to. Lets say you have a blog where you post your drawings and say not to steal them. Well, if they are visited a lot, they will appear in google images, and people will see the photo, but not your petition.

I'm wondering if there are "official" sites that explain art theft in plain English, similar to the first post? I don't doubt any of the information; I ask because 1) I've been searching for a couple of years but my search-fu is awful (it's always just that one simple combination of key words that I never think of...) and 2) unfortunately, no one outside of CS takes me seriously if I link to this thread lol I've tried multiple times and have gotten responses ranging from disbelief to curse words, and when I throw links with tons of legal jargon at people instead, they still don't believe me and they think I'm pulling crap out of my rear end lol

I love that we have this information on CS in an easy-to-understand format. I just really want to have authentic links on hand that I can throw at people when I notice that they're unwittingly committing art theft. lol
