ulysses was raised by three of his aunts and his grandfather, his real father abandoning his mother after she had become pregnant with him and his mother unfortunately becoming extremely ill after giving birth to him and passing away a few months afterwards. so, his mother's father, two of her sisters and his father's sister helped bring him up, none of the women ever took up husbands or wives while he was around so growing up ulysses never had any siblings or cousins to play with, leading him to become very enthusiastic about socializing with neighborhood kids whenever he could. he never resented his father for abandoning him and his mother, but he didn't forgive him either, he knew no good would come out of hating a man he had never met, and likely never would. anyone who has spent any amount of time with ulysses can easily tell that even though he gives off the lovable idiot vibes, he's far from uneducated and rather quick on his wits and tends to pay attention to details, but not in a nit-picky of meticulous way, but he is, in fact, lovable, and very much enjoys expressing and receiving affection.

growing up the youngest of seven children delilah learned very quickly that things if there was something she wanted she needed to act and not wait and think about something, thinking on your feet was possibly the most valuable skill one could have, in her mind at least. with her parents having more than enough mouth's to feed often times it was a struggle for the girl to have enough to eat, all of her siblings older, stronger, and smarter than her, though it
wasn't their fault, nor was it their parents fault, but as a result delilah ended up to be not only the youngest of the family but also the smallest, the rest
of her family well over 5'8'' and much heavier and muscular, leaving her to quite literally be the runt. but out of all of her brothers and sisters and even
her extended family, delilah was the only one to make it through the vigorous training and demand of training for entering the force, everyone else in her family had dropped out before, but she had pushed through.
despite not being very literate she loves to read and study many things, loves to listen in on other's conversations and observe interaction between
people but more often than not she does not join in the conversation herself, delilah likes to socialize but is extremely self conscious about her voice and prefers not to speak around others if she's not familiar with them.

nobuyuki is as smug and as snooty as they come, which is fitting
seeing as he was brought up in a somewhat wealthy household. the
only reason he's actually a part of the training regimen is because
he thinks he can do things better than those already in charge, he's
not here because he cares or needs a job, he's here because he
wants people to know how great he is, or at least how great he
thinks he is. but really he's just an overconfident teen who needs to
witness what the real world is actually like, being sheltered as a
child has only done bad things to his personality, he can't be rotten
completely to the core, so perhaps a wake-up call would do him
good? or maybe he'll just be a jerk forever, only time will tell.

if nao had family he doesn't remember them, and his apathetic at
titude means he's not exactly the type to investigate why that ma
y be. he's not lazy per say, but he needs something major to incen
tivize him to do anything that doesn't interest him, which is most
things. as he lay dying in a fire in the office building he worked in
at the time, abandoned by his coworkers and friends and the firef
ighters who deemed the building too dangerous to enter, nao and
the devil who burnt the building down made a contract. nao woul
d be allowed to survive, under the conditions that the flamethrow
er devil would become his heart. he wouldn't consider himself a b
ad person, but he is definitely jaded towards the world, and not w
elcoming to others. he is very much survival orientated, will do wh
atever it takes to keep himself alive. not to say he can't warm up t
o others, he just finds it a better use of his time to watch people in
amusement, rather than try to make a genuine connection with any
one. he has tried to keep his head down since becoming a hybrid, b
ut he's gotten into his fair share of fights, be them with humans or
devils.
