Hei is a man of many facades, never quite settling into one defined category as his overall impression from other people vary in consistency - to put it plainly, he's an enigma. Observant to a fault, it's almost as if he can feel the shifts in the atmosphere whenever he steps into rooms or spaces with those that either may or may not favor his presence. The Grand Duke has the troubling responsibility of commanding over several hundred legions of demons under the veil of the North King's methodical direction. Coming off as laid-back and indolent, one would think that he's aloof in conversation, but he's quite the opposite. Others having the wrong impression of him is a practice, not a mistake. He gauges the next moves of others with silent calculation and doesn't show his enemies what he's truly capable of, or what he wants and as such he thinks nothing of the unanticipated actions he presents around others. He has an overall pleasant demeanor with good natured intentions and a surprisingly human heart despite the fact that he's selfless in battle, locating leaders and engaging with them directly in battle after rallying his company with determined victory. He's aware of the Marquis's perceptiveness, but balancing his personal facades with underhanded exchanges of information to rival factions to keep some semblance of leverage between territories has yet to come back to bite him. The threat of his dealings being uncovered is something sitting at the bottom of his list of things to worry about considering the manipulative manner of transactions between demons, thus his courage and loyalty towards those he shows concern for isn't to be questioned. He doesn't deal well with failure nor is he one to give in even when things seem too bleak for one's liking. While he is careful to cater his disposition to those around him, there are times when pieces of his mask falls away to reveal a man that struggles with finding peace within himself. The high pain tolerance that came with his immortality taught him to forget about just how wounded he may come out of the fray with, his self-doubts and motivation to become both strong in name (powerful assets to demons) and strength fueling his desire to succeed with all of the plans buzzing in his seemingly apathetic mind. Hei was once a "tsukimono" or possessive spirit, specifically an inugami, that wandered the Shikoku prefecture until his strength grew due to the amount of humans that he possessed and fed off the emotional instability or weakness they showed. Eventually, he became a type of yokai called an "okuri-inu" hence why he has the ability to transform into a large black dog. His human form manifested much later after he became a sentient, modern day demon that didn't solely feed off human emotions/desires.001 mori (l) hei (f) 002 twenty-five 003 cismale, he/him/they 004
