personality:
people naturally flock around silas. silo, as
he's known to his friends, is rarely seen with-
out a big smile. he's a ray of sun, from out-
ward appearances, always happy to laugh and
talk with anyone, always confident and secure
seeming, and always ready to have a good
time. silo loves both quiet and outgoing
people. he's a grade A advice giver, and an
attentive listener, even though he talks a lot
himself, too. chatty and peppy, it seems like
nothing can bring silas down. for silo, this is
how he's coped with his past. with a painful
home life and a desire to keep it secret, silo's
personality is a natural coping mechanism:
be happy, and no one has to know. it's pretty
subconscious, and silo would be hard pressed
to ever admit that that's why he behaves the
way he does. when he first left home, at 19,
silo was a bit lost. he didn't attend university,
when high school had first ended, he couldn't
yet bring himself to leave home. instead, he
wasted away at home for a year before leaving
unannounced; he impulsively flew to berlin,
but he hasn't yet told his father that he's in
germany, even though it's been 3 years. in
berlin, works on the sets of movies, an aspiring
filmmaker. he hates talking about his past, and
brushes it off when people ask. he's incredibly
supportive of all his friends, partly because of
the guilt he feels for abandoning his mother.
he's become a bit of a party boy, in berlin, after
realizing it was easiest not to think about his
mother when he's having a good time under
the influence with a bunch of friends. when
silas cares about someone, he'll take care of
them, and make sure they know it. he stood
in as an adult to his mother younger than he
should have had to, and some essence of that
maturity, even hidden behind his wild grin,
leads people to turn to him as a leader, a role
that he steps into willingly, out of habit. but
silo doens't mind. he loves people, though
he's not one to change his personality to fit
in. at the end of the day, he's silas graf, and
even if he wants to keep his deep emotions
private, he's not shy about anything else.

history w mj:
silo met mj on the set of a docu-
mentary filming in berlin, where
mj was working as a journalist
consultant. the two hit it off
immediately, mj at first his
party buddy, but eventually a
close friend. they opened up to
each other, and for the first time
in years, silo felt that he could
talk to someone about his regrets.
even after mj left berlin, the two
kept in touch, and when mj
stopped responding, silo knew that
something was very wrong. mj's
death wrecked him all over again:
he wasn't able to save him, either.
history:
silo's parents divorced when he was 8,
and he was faced with the decision of
who to live with. his father was german,
and until then the family had bounced
back and forth between germany and
seattle. silo chose his mother, since
his father cheated and he coudln't
bring himself to leave behind his gr-
ieving mother. his father, a wealthy
man, left silo's mother behind with-
out anything, and spent several years
trying to get silo to join him in ger-
many, to no avail. silas would not
abandon his mom. alone and broke,
his mom's mental health took a turn
for the worse, and her mood disorder
became debilitating. silo spent much
of his childhood parenting her, and
trying to keep the two afloat. he faced a
lot of guilt when he came of age and it
was time to move away from home. he
resents his father bitterly, but even so,
he can't help but sometimes imagine
what his life could have been like if he
had gone with him to germany as a boy.
