-- nishiki was fostered in the small farming community of fallarbor town, hoenn by an ex
pert glassblower father & a mineralogist mother, the older bro to two biological children
-- as a kid he spent a lot of time on route 113 collecting soot for his dad's work (healthy!)
-- he also did some field work with his mom, like collecting mineral samples from mt chi-
mney & jagged pass with her for her studies. loved hearing her tell of how she found him
-- his family often took weekend trips down to ol' lavaridge town to enjoy the hot springs
-- he had always dreamed big, even as a kid: his childhood dream was to be a gym leader
-- nishiki's mellowed out as he got older, less impulsive and more focused on the big idea
-- that said, he's still an act first, think later person at heart. he's got quick reflexes, and
is very grateful for them when he spends so much time trying to not like die in volcanoes
-- besides helping out his parents (and later helping to take of his newly born siblings) th
ere wasn't a lot for nishiki to do growing up so he took up every physical activity he coul-
d do in his area: rock climbing, cycling, hiking, weightlifting, hang-gliding. he's stupid fit
-- he's always been a hard worker, because he likes the idea of contributing to something
bigger than himself! whether it comes to his athletic activities like rock-climbing or hikin
g, or training with his pokemon, if he gets in the spirit he'll keep going... until he crashes
-- since his siblings are younger than him by 6 years & 5 years, nishiki delayed starting his
pokemon journey until they were old enough to explicitly not need him at home anymore
-- being entirely used to the heat means that he's not "fond" of cold weather-he detests it

cedric grew up an orphan in galar's motostoke city, not that he considers himself to have had a bad childhood. the orphanage he grew
up in gave him food, a roof over his head, and even an education. apparently his birth parents perished in an accident when he was 2
years old, but he doesn't remember them enough to miss them. that might bother some people, but cedric has grown to live with it &
keep on living his own life, always facing forward. at a young age he rescued a yamper missing a leg by taking it to a mechanical repa
ir shop where it could get fitted for a prosthetic, and the shop owner let the young cedric "help" so that he would stop pacing all over
her shop and distracting her. this ignited cedric's love of learning more about the world beyond his orphanage and every day after the
incident, a 6-year old cedric would visit the woman's shop and beg her to let him help until she gave in and let him watch her work, a
llowing him to give more and more hands on assistance the older he got. throughout the rest of his adolescent and teen years he eve-
ntually got placed in several foster homes, but "adelynn's mechanics and metalworks" always felt like his true home away from home,
and the shop owner adelynn hayward was his treasured mentor, as well as the closest he ever got to a surrogate mother. cedric spent
of his time picking up the ins and outs of the shop's specialties, which worked out well for everyone; he had always been an independ
ent kid, and by being mostly self-sufficient cedric's various foster parents could focus their attention on their more needy and reliant
instead. by the time he was 16, cedric was working full-time at the shop and had become a talented mechanic in his own right. when
he wasn't working, he still mostly stayed out of the house, training and playing with his pokemon or exploring the city. still - he was o
nce more beginning to feel boxed in, not by his circumstances, but of his own volition. determined to make a name for himself, he se
t out to thrive as a person. his folks might be gone, but he'll become famous enough for his exploits to reach the heavens themselves!

as god of the seas, one would expect masahiko to have certain expectations to live up to. a temper like a raging temp
est, a mood as fickle as the ebb and flow of the tides, a force of nature that crashes down upon those around him like
a wave on the shore. masa is... none of those things, generally speaking. he's much more of a go with the flow kind of
guy, who is honestly more like an easygoing river than a raging ocean. more than anything, he is an earnest and entire
ly candid man who speaks his mind, whatever the matter may be. this is probably less because he has strong convictio
ns that he needs to defend and more because he is not in possession of a brain to mouth filter, which can land him in t
he thick of it whenever he's in a situation where it'd be smarter to hold his tongue. the man's lack of filter would likely
have netted him many more enemies over the years if he had a more malicious heart, but masahiko has an almost infe
ctiously bright attitude and his initial thoughts or reactions are rarely negative. it's not as if he goes around spewing ki
ndness and oozing sunshine and rainbows, but the sea god has a very casual positivity that is hard to shake, even in dir
e situations. masa is almost notoriously difficult to unsettle and takes most things in stride with his continual sincerity

however, as hard as it may be to ruffle his feathers, he has plenty of other problems that eat away at him from the ins
ide his unflappable exterior. most of his youth was spent traveling all around the coast with his fathers & a host of vari
ious mentors in order to learn about how to be a proper god one day. it was an enjoyable adventure of a childhood, bu
t eventually the consequences of constantly moving from port town to port town started to take their toll. masahiko is
and always been the kind to easily make friends, but the idea of a real companion is practically foreign to him after so
much time without putting down roots. the problem is that masa is an easy friend, but he isn't ever anyone's #1 choice
- he may tell himself to not be bothered by it, but deep down he's scared that he'll always just be everyone's 2nd pick.
