ellie is pissed about being at CXR-800. a previous bio student, she was using her well-mastered (in her opinion) power to experiment scientifically on the genetic/atomic makeup of different items and creatures. her carefully tailored persona and life-plan were thrown away by this place, and she's done holding up her happy-go-lucky mask for the people inside. a snappy, unpredictable firecracker she lashes out often and tries to manipulate and control her fellow students - and the guards, too. she's frequent ly in trouble for using her powers in the cafeteria and living quarters. she knows taylor avoids her, and it makes her even more angry, because of the sisterhood they could have had. because of this, she often tries to sabotage taylor's relationships.

even after discovering her mutation when she was stuck in a tree in kindergarten, scarlett grew up a relatively normal kid. her parents taught her to mask her 'strange abilities' in favor of honoring her mind - so, as bullies slid past to bully her peers with more obvious mutations, scarlett focused on her studies and was hailed as nothing more than a good student. obviously excelling in biology, she found herself tangled up in a fast-track to medical school.

when not caught up in the ICU, scarlett has taken to calling herself "anthos" - latin for flower. level headed and jaded from the things she's seen in her field, she also does an excellent job of masking her own emotions in favor of getting the job done - no matter what it might be. she feels a sense of duty to the people around her; to protect them and keep them safe, no matter the cost.

this leaves her in an almost perpetual state of burnout. she's always putting one foot in front of the other, telling herself it's the final step when there's millions more ahead of her. anyone relatively "close" to her would probably describe her as aloof and flaky, despite her caring nature. she has a tendency to ghost her friends and allies in favor of holing up alone to recover from her long days, pushing the world around her away. after all, she can stand to grind herself down to the bone - her branches will protect the parts of her that are withering away.
