a re-release is a pet gotten from a special box on december 18th (i believe that's the only occasion, but there might be others) which may have a chance to be, well, a pet that already once existed. say, for example, a 2008 doggo. you couldn't get one of those from the monthly adoptions anymore, right? but on that certain occasion you might have a chance to get that exact same doggo from the box, with the only difference being the date at the bottom of their lil profile. their rarities usually don't decline at all from this, either, but people have their preferences. sorry if that was a long and complicated explanation i'm horrible at this oof
