Crazy cat lady

Pixie rushed to get her costume ready, flitting around the house like a butterfly in a flower field. She chattered excitedly to her friend Cinnamon as she went, telling him all about how much she loved her costume idea this year. She had only thought it up an hour ago and yet it was probably the best one she'd ever had. It's always the last-minute costumes that are the best, really. "Alright, alright- so- what's your big- costume idea this year?"
Cinnamon asked raggedly, doing his best to speak while avoiding being beaned by any of the plushies Pixie was throwing over her shoulder. She was in the midst of an archeological excursion into a chest that held all of her childhood stuffed animals. "Brace yourself," she said, tossing a pink rabbit behind her and continuing her search, "because it's super amazing!"
"Okay, I got that part-" Cinnamon paused to dodge a flying blue turtle, "just tell me!"
Suddenly, the stream of projectile toys came to a halt, and Pixie started gathering her Chosen Ones together. "Well," she began, stuffing her arms full of whatever it was she had been looking for, "here it is!" She turned around to reveal what she was holding: a mountain of stuffed cats.
Cinnamon stared at her, obviously not comprehending how a bunch of cat plushies constituted a costume.
"I'm gonna be a crazy cat lady!" Pixie proclaimed, puffing out with confidence.
Cinnamon crinkled his nose up in a mixture of shock and disgust. "You can't be a crazy cat lady! You're a cat!" His tone was as if the very idea itself had personally offended him.
"What do you mean I can't be a crazy cat lady?! I can be whatever I want! It's Halloween!"
"No you can't! A cat can't dress as a crazy cat lady! It doesn't make sense!"
"Yes I can!"
It was a childish argument, but of course, they were children.
Pixie knew that, in a way, Cinnamon was right - a cat dressing as a crazy cat lady was certainly, shall we say, unique. However, she had already decided on her costume, and she loved it. Besides, Pixie was not in the business of Letting Others Tell Her What To Do. She never had been, and likely never would be. She kicked Cinnamon out of her room and that was that.

"I can't believe I'm even willing to be seen with you," Cinnamon grumped as they left the house.
Pixie was walking with her head held high, gleefully covered in cats and wearing the most oversized, ugliest sweater she had been able to find. Her footsteps were light and cheerful as her best friend trudged along beside her.
She thought that that sullen look suited his costume - it went nice with the patchy wizard hat - but she decided to keep that to herself.
"You should be proud to be seen with me! I've got one of the best costumes around!"
Cinnamon wanted to stay mad, but in the end he couldn't hold on to his indignation for more than a block. The Halloween spirit seeped into him from all of the festive decorations and excited children that surrounded them. It helped that his partner was probably the most excited child in the world at the moment. Before he knew it, he was bouncing along with her, both of them running from house to house at a speed that would be impossible to keep up for more than a couple blocks.
"Oh, oh, let's go there next! The one with all the jack-o-lanterns!"
"Sounds great to me!"
They raced for their next destination, nearly tripping over each other and their own costumes in their haste to ring the doorbell. Cinnamon, who was not weighed down by a myriad of cat plushies, got there first, and he pushed the button while sticking his tongue out at Pixie, who play-sulked for a moment before bursting back into a smile.
"I get to ring the next bell!"

(I hope it was okay to include the story with her! I did originally write this story for Lo/Lo, but I really liked the idea and costume so I thought I'd enter her in the dress-ups contest as well.)
