It really would! I’m kind of surprised that there aren’t more people asking for something like this.

Chemistry-style? Lemme think in the spirit of some public domain imaginings (seeing as the people are probably right about Mario and copyrights):
- Benzene ring snakes
- Little hydrogen hamsters
- H2O... somebody two-headed or two-tailed, I imagine
- Swap-in reactions, like "turn in an acid and a base token, get a water and a salt creature/item"
- Isotopes - if "normal water" critter is carrying fruit to show hydrogen's composition, "heavy water", with an extra neutron on the hydrogen, might carry an extra grape or something.
- Long carbon molecules and enantiomers* might also be fun to draw.
And, of course, jokes like"Be Positive!" - said the Proton to the Electron.
*Enantiomers are molecules that are, while same in atomic composition and order, nevertheless, not identical (just like many CS creatures).
Such are naturally occurring d-glucose and man-made l-glucose - both are "sugar - C6H12O6", they differ only in 3D. That is, their order of "which carbon in the row has what tails wagging of it" is exactly the same, but whether a certain "tail" is pointed up or down is different.
As a result, the latter is more laxative and less usable by Earth creatures' bodies... as a matter of fact, "heavy" water in large amounts is also not very good for (at least) mammals... small changes in chemistry make for a big difference on macro scale!
