i think you can guess which ones are my favourites haha. dear evan hansen and be more chill, although if i had to pick of those two i'd say dear evan hansen!! mostly because the message of it deeply resonated with me and helped me take steps to start getting help again. i relate a lot to evan because i too have social anxiety and a mom who's unsure how to help. I kinda relate to connor too? I get really angry at the smallest things and i'm just. angry in general lol? I'm like the anxious and angry love child of evan and connor who cares too much and not at all at the same time haha.
I haven't seen a lot of musicals (just wicked, deh and come from away) and none of them were on broadway since I'm in Canada, but they were really great!!

I've heard of falsettos, but i don't know what it's about; I'd have to look it up! But i do know book of mormon! I've never seen it but I've read the synopsis and listened to the soundtrack. I can confidently say it's the funniest thing i have ever listened to

sorry this is super long,,,, I hope this is what you meant!!

I have a few tips/guidelines that I followed when I was still getting the hang of drawing people, and still use today!! I am by no means an expert though and i'm still working on my anatomy and a bunch of other things! For example: I still can't draw feet, I'm still working on hands, I can't draw movement very well, I need to work on expressive faces, etc etc. I still have a lot of areas to work on and not all my drawings turn out good or the way I want them to. No one's do! People usually only share the drawings they like and not the hundreds of ones that didn't turn out right, and i'm guilty of it too! We want to shield the things we do badly and shine a light on the things we do good, but sometimes that makes people think that in order to be a good artist they have to be able to draw everything correctly! Well I'm here to day you don't!! I have tons of scrapped drawings that turned out bad, and I always will. every artist makes bad drawings and good drawings. I'm still learning how to be a better artist; everyone is!

before you continue, this is my most important tip: remember that there is no finish line to being an artist. there's no point you hit where you're completely satisfied with the way all your drawings turn out. there's no point where there's no room left to grow and improve; the room is infinite. no matter what level artist you are, we're all improving, all the time. we're always learning and growing and that's okay.

✧･ﾟ: * USE REFERENCES *:･ﾟ✧

I used to use a lot of references for faces and bodies (and still do. like tons of references. you would not believe) because it's honestly super hard to draw an anatomically correct person without reference pictures. Whether you're trying for realistic or stylized (like the me in the corner there), references are really helpful for both! For example, I used a reference for the pose above to make sure I drew it right, but also to make sure it was generally anatomically correct. Stylized people don't have to be 100% anatomically correct though! Like I usually draw the head bigger, and the shoulders and neck slimmer. Just play around with it honestly!! Lots of people draw the legs longer or the torso shorter or the head or hands bigger than what would be considered "correct" but it still looks right! You just have to make sure the proportions work with one another.

✧･ﾟ: * PROPORTIONS, AHHH *:･ﾟ✧

Proportions are hella scary. like hella scary. I learned about it first in grade nine art class, and honestly I hated it. there was so much to remember and it was very overwhelming!! so I won't give you a big lecture on anatomy and proportion because that scared me away from trying to learn it for a good year. (no offense to my grade nine art teacher!! she was very fun and taught it in a really great way and I loved her, but i'm just an anxious mess and having to remember lots of things scares me.)
So!! here are the guidelines you should follow if you're still trying get the hang of people:

☆ the shoulders should be able to fit a whole other head (imagine a three headed person.... freaky)
☆ the torso should be the length of two heads
☆ the elbows should line up with the waist
☆ the wrists should line up with the pelvis
☆ the tips of the fingers should line up with the middle of the thigh
☆ lastly!! the thighs and calves should be a head and a half, i'm pretty sure!

once you get the hang of those you can start playing around with it and continue developing your style! Don't be afraid to take liberties, too! It doesn't have to be anatomically correct all the time. If you like the way your drawing looks even though it's not anatomically correct, that's okay!! Just because the anatomy isn't correct doesn't mean the drawing isn't good!!

✧･ﾟ: * HANDS AND FEET, OH GOD HELP ME *:･ﾟ✧

I'll be honest, I still can't draw feet. my feet look like feet but just... not right. I hate them. I hate them so much. but I have to draw them, because if I don't then I won't keep improving and that's even worse. I wish I could just skip ahead to a point where I can draw them and it's fine, it's all good, but we can't develop mad skills in seconds which is honestly completely unfair. but my tip to you is to just draw them! they won't look right at first and that's okay, my hands used to look like sharp sausages and deformed carrots. but that's better than just drawing them hiding behind the person's back, like what I used to do! I was so scared of drawing them badly that I didn't allow myself room to improve, and I've always regretted that. but I eventually let myself draw them even though they were bad, and now I can draw hands/feet in certain angles and poses! I can't with others yet though, so I use reference photos, or i'll take a picture of my own hand in the pose I want! so go forth!! draw hands!! draw feet!! draw them badly! improve!!!

I can't link them because I can't remember if there are any nude reference pictures used in them or not, but I'll give you the name of the youtube channel that does them! They do videos on drawing hands and feet and torsos and it's honestly really helpful. they do start off drawing basic shapes and getting the hang of those before doing actual people, which is very boring to draw I know, but it helps I promise!! The channel is Proko!

I made something else a while back that had the opening "Hollow Knight doodles". But I spent three and a half hours on it, so I don't know why I added "doodles" into that title. I wanted to continue the tradition although thankfully this didn't take me three hours.
When I was almost done with this picture, my laptop froze and I had to restart it. The last time I had saved it was when I had just started working on the last character's lines, and I was almost done with the coloring. This is far from the first time it's happened; my laptop does it all the time. That was yesterday. I was so frustrated and exhausted that I decided to go do something else, and figured I would probably never get to finishing this picture. But I did! And that's why it shows two drawing sessions.

Anyway, after two only partially related paragraphs, these are a few OCs of mine. I have more, but I either didn't remember their designs or didn't have enough room to add them in. Granted, I did have my sketchbook right next to me, and I easily could have moved the lines, but shh I was lazy. I'll introduce the characters in the order I drew them.
None of these characters are developed at all, I just enjoy drawing them and that's their primary reason for existence :'))

- The luna moth in the bottom left is the most recent one I designed. I wanted to design my sister as a Hollow Knight character, so I did! The paint is inspired by her love of dying hair and spray paint. Before this, I gave her a picture of something she hears from me a lot :)
(excuse the messy lines on that one, and the bad handwriting; I am actually taller than her in real life, though the picture really doesn't show it because I don't know proportions)
I've never tried to design a moth in Hollow Knight's style, so I wasn't really sure how to make the wings look right, but I like it.

- The wasp in the top left is Abispa, the first HK OC I made. I tried to make her wings look like they're in motion. I'm still not sure how to color her...

- The little bean in the top middle is unnamed. I have no idea who or what they are. I just doodled them one day and immediately claimed them as my child. Now that I think about it, they look a little like a Primal Aspid...

- If I told you that one of the characters here is supposed to be me as a Hollow Knight character, given multiple traits of my personality you'd probably think it was the "ant" in the bottom middle. You'd be wrong, but it is a reasonable assumption. She's wearing a dark cloak and hood, and her design is mostly black and white. Her name is Ruci, and she's just a cinnamon roll.

- The unusually-cheerful-looking bug in the bottom right is the one I designed after myself! They're not really based on any real bugs, I just added features I liked the look of, basically. I think if I was in Hollow Knight, I would be an artist, but I'd probably use a quill rather than paint, because I use exclusively pens and pencils whenever I draw traditionally.

this is just some shoddy sketch i did that was in my drafts and i am posting this because i hate having unfinished drafts this is a reminder for me to finish this in the morning. also this is unrelated but one thing ive noticed about about visual artists is that their art usually mirrors either their own appearance and surroundings, or it mirrors what they are attracted to. if its the former the artist is more at peace with their surroundings n accepts their appearance a bit more, if its the latter the artist is usually more advanced, as they know how to create different faces and settings with their art that dont mimic their own, but they might also just be more unhappy and they use art as a way to create what they are attracted to and what makes them feel at peace. im definitely the former even though im not advanced at all. i just like to draw people that look like what i wish i looked like or that look like ppl im attracted to irl. i like to draw ppl that have lives that i wish i could have, because im so upset with my life and i know itll never be what i want it to be. my main oc is basically just me but he looks different and has a better life. sdfghjkjhgfds ok ignore this im so tired and dumb and stupid
