gar let out an angry screech as she watched an enemy gengar completely dominate valeria- the vespiqueen her family had sent to protect her. she tried to cast water pulse, but to no avail against the pokemon. she needed valeria in order to win. her rain dance slowly pattered out and left the field muddy and empty feeling. she needed to focus, she couldn't do this on her own. the gengar turned, it's cruel gaze catching gar's within an instant. "no one here to protect you anymore-",it taunted. gar shivered, unable to keep her gaze away from him as he slowly closed the gap between the two.

gar let out a shaky breath and closed her eyes, trying to focus. she needed to calm down- she couldn't do this being as upset as she seemed to be. though she could feel the gengar getting closer, she tried to block it out. she focused on the dew on the ground, on the feeling of the water in the air- she had to do this or she'd lose this battle. slowly, so slowly, she imagined the water around her, her friends, her team mates, healing each one of them. she could feel something, though she wasn't sure what.

then, the gengar let out an angry wail as something hit it from behind. "gar! we can do this, open your eyes!", valeria's voice shattered the silence afterwards. gar opened her eyes and caught a glimpse of her team- egg and valeria standing strong and beginning to charge their attacks for the fight. she'd done it-- she'd saved them. without a second thought, she attempted to cast life dew again, a move she'd only been able to do correctly handful of times through her training. this time, it was different. this time, she knew she could do it.
