A lot of "carnoferns" on Sagan 4 have a distinct bark texture that I am 99% sure originated from one of the artists google image searching for a fern and getting something like this and somehow thinking the basket was part of the plant. It's since been soft-retconned that the bark texture originates from the scars left behind by leaves being shed, kinda like similar textures on palm trees and the like. I think some fern trees might even have similar going on, so it all worked out in the end. In any case, this species is pretty large and produces big leaves that stick around a while before being shed, unlike its ancestor which just keeps one ring of small leaves at a time, so it ends up having far more pronounced, scale-like scarring on its bark.
