The thread shared above by Eagle's Eye is the most regularly referenced forum for tracking number of pets per year - the only other (public) thread that is often referenced is DaDwarf's A Complete Pet Collection Count Guide. Both appear to currently be missing the "year-in-review" for 2023, though IsABlueBean has shared that they are working on updating the information.

She has, however, shared the 2023 numbers by each species!
Totaling the numbers of releases per species for 2023 as shared by IsABlueBean, the total pet count for 2023 should be 1,369.
