Average litter is 6-12. Normally first time rat moms have 6-8 (or smaller litters), while rare, rats can have up to 20+ in a litter. Also rare they can have under 6. I had one rat produce 17 pups, one of my mice produced 17 pups, one of my rats produced 3 pups, one of my mice produced 2 pups, all others had 6-13 pups. Also the gestation period for a rat is only 21-23 days.

I used to own 150 rats, mice, natal rats, spiny mice, 3 gerbils, and 1 bushy tailed jird.

If you plan on breeding your rats, make sure you can either find homes for them, or a way to keep them if you cant. There are a select few who will want them as feeders.

I currently have 4 female rats, 2 male rats, 2 male mice, 1 female mouse, and 1 male natal rat.

Rats are quite smart, so are mice for that matter ^^
