I'm pretty sure crewniverse didn't do anything to imply she was nice or kind though, it was just a common fan depiction of her. The only things we knew of her before now was that she was shattered by Rose (though The Trial puts that into question lol), that Earth was her only colony, that her gem was on her stomach, that Blue Diamond was very close to her, and that she made a human zoo. Nothing that really points to any personality traits, not even the zoo since it could be for any number of reasons - kindness, scientific curiosity, amusement, or as Pearl put it, to have "trophies of her conquest". The humans being treated so well could also be out of necessity rather than kindness since it keeps them complacent.
