I play on xbox1 (as stated above) and I recieved a free pc version that came with the servers mineplex, and a few others but I don't know if I'm able to play if people on pc. I've looked it up before but can't find anything on it so..yeah.
I found this, maybe it'll help? It's over a year old though so I'm not entirely sure how reliable it is, sorry ;-;
The windows 10 version has become the bedrock version. Same as the console version.
The java version is still the java version, which can be used on any PC - whether it is running Windows 10 or anything else.
Sorry, I know it's confusing;
There are now two (main) versions;
"Minecraft" (the bedrock Edition), for Windows 10, Xbox One, various mobile devices, and coming soon for Nintendo Switch
"Minecraft: Java Edition" for PC/java, which could be a computer running Windows 10 (or Windows 7,8,Linux, Mac, etc) - this is the original Minecraft, with all its modpacks, maps, and so on; it's just been renamed to "...Java Edition".
They are not compatible.
So people playing "Minecraft" on a Windows 10 computer can play with people playing it on an Xbox or on phones. They all log in to Xbox Live. And can only use the three Microsoft-approved servers.
People playing "Minecraft:Java Edition" can only play with each other (but, there are thousands of servers).

Further confusion: If you buy "Minecraft: Java Edition", you get a free code for "Minecraft" for Windows 10.
