What pet is this?

Perhaps a weird question... I know this pet and its sibling are from July 2011, but does anyone know of they were part of the normal monthly adopts, or if they were a special release of some kind? The news archives do say something about a special free pet in the Store, but not if it is this or why they are releasing it if it is. Also they don't have a newborn stage in the Archives.

This is a bit of a funky one, they never had a formal announcement in the News feed and the dog adoption page for July wasn't archived for the Wayback Machine. For confirmation, there was no Special Events category in the adopt page in July 2011.
Based on discussions in the July thread for that year, these kitsune appear to have been a bonus adopt to celebrate Tess traveling to Japan. There is no growing stage because the outcome was released full grown. ^^

The special adopt available in the shop was for June 2011, it was actually these bats!

It's a PPS horse! There's more of them in 2009/2010 in the archive, specifically all the Equimagine mid-stage PPS use that lineart as per the CS History thread.
